Who\'s the lucky guy that gets to weld my spiders...

/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I got an open carrier from Rene along with his old welded spiders (the ones that he said cracked) as well as another set of spiders that he welded up for Neomastino (Kelly in Washington). I want to avoid any cracking of the gears from the little bit of play that the gears have, so I am thinking that I should have the side gears and spiders all welded together, and the spiders welded to the cross shaft. Sound good? /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif Sooooooo... Who's the lucky guy that gets to help me out with this project. Te only welder that I have access to is a little 115V one, and I think that I should use something a bit more powerful than that. Not to mention that my welding skills pretty much blow. Dont' everyone volunteer at once now! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

If I was that kid that keeps posting about his half-assed fixes then I might try bubblegum. /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif But I'm not him, so I think I'll stick to actual welding. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif If nobody can do it then I'll just have to pay someone or just see how long it lasts after doing them with a 115V MIG.

Nah, half assed fixes on the trail are the name of the game! I'm talking about the kid that's using duct tape for body mounts and making his own power steering fluid by mixing brake fluid and ATF. /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

I tried just welding mine to the cross shafts and they didn't last very long before I busted the welds. Then I welded them the way Rene did his and they are holding up to some very good abuse now.

The spiders that I have are welded by Rene in the typical fozzy locker fashion, but when Rene pulled out his spiders after 25k miles they had some wear that he wasn't happy with. He recommended that they also be welded to the side gears and the cross shafts. I have another set of spiders that aren't worn, and I figured it it's welded totally solid then there's not much chance of breakage. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

No jokes.....and I am NOT the "fix-it Kid"....lol. /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif let me know whatya think....Maybe I'll pull mine back apart and weld the spiders to the cross shaft and side gears at the same time you come up...

Shaggy, why don't you just put a mini spool in there and be done with it? /forums/images/graemlins/ears.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/usaflag.gif

/forums/images/graemlins/deal.gif Directions from San Jose to Nevada City.

Talk with 4x4High for how long it would take ya to get here. He came up from Fremont a month or so ago. It's not a short ride....3+ hours I think. /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif

A mini spool costs almost as much as a Detroit...

Joe, a 3 hour drive 2 ways is going to pretty much kill a day! Dammit, I don't think that I'm going to be able to get a whole day to do this. Oh well, I guess I'll worry about it later. May end up that I come out anyways if I can't find anyone local, I have family in that direction so I could probably just visit them at the same time.
