Why do people like wasting other people\'s time?

I put the word out that I'm looking for a Dana 70.
I get a call from this guy telling me he's got one and he wants $250.00. Good deal I say. I want it.
Three days of phone calls back and forth- . He asks me some pretty stupid questions I find. Do you want 8 lug? Hello? one ton is 8 lug.
It turns out he doesn't have a Dana 70-
Big surprise!. He wants to sell me some huge freaking diff off a truck that looks 25 years old.

If he didn't have a Dana 70 , why did this duffus call me and waste my time?

    Sorry..... needed to vent

Or the people who call when you have a vehicle advertised for sale and offer you half of what you are asking.

yeah there is a difference between seeing the truck and making a legit offer and an inssult of an offer.
Deception is horible also...I think it was on this board I read that someone had seen a parts blazer on e-bay and after making all kinds of arrangements and driving a good ways the blazer ended up being a rust bucket and unsalvagable. Totally not what the pictures showed and what the owner said.

suck, I hate it when crap like that happens... although I do try to get the best deal I can on an OBO vehicle, I generaly can't bring myself down to give them less then what I think its worth to me.

I got a similar deal on a set of rims a few days ago - The ad was for "4 6-hole Chevy aluminum wheels" - I called the guy, and he made it sound like they were the A/R "star" type rims fo only $100, so I drove 90 minutes to pick them up, I got there, and they were indeed American Racing, and aluminum, but that was it - those 70's turbine things, 5 lug and painted blue. If only I had a van with heart shaped windows and sidepipes, the trip would have been worth my time[IMG].

I think most of us that have been into cars and trucks have been through this. I guess all you can say is what goes around comes around.

    They come dually and single.
    I'm looking for a single

To buy something there- add the shipping, duty, taxes etc it gets real expensive

    Thanks for the tip though

Shipping sucks...the exchange rate sucks...but you are close enough to the border to take advantage. There is no duty to be paid on automotive parts. All you pay when you bring it across is the GST...7%. I found a shipping company just across the border. For a small fee I can use their address and have stuff shipped to them...when it arrives they call me to come pick it up. I save the brokerage fees this way and that's the expensive part.

Could be another option for ya...[IMG]

BTW I have wasted much time looking at trucks advertised as 1 ton...only to see the D44 or 10 bolt up front. They always say "Yeah well, it has one ton springs..." [IMG] Losers!!!

Re: Why do people like wasting other people\'s time?

Lots of it is ignorance, he didn't know what a 70 was or looked like and someone most likely told him thats what it was....I had a friend who went a couple of hundred miles to get a 44, got it home and I went over to scan it and it turned out to be 10 bolt...see neither of the two knew what was what, but he did get the gearing he wanted and was happy so nothing ventured nothing lost.. Hope you find your elusive Dana 70 soon!

    Still a very-pissed off

Re: Why do people like wasting other people\'s time?

My question is, why do you want a Dana 70 so bad? Is your current Dana 60 a semi floating axle? What's wrong with a 14 bolt full floater if you're on a Blazer frame?

Re: Why do people like wasting other people\'s time?

It's a full floter but only 31 spline. I break axles every year on this rear unit.
Not that bad- I loaded up on extra axles last time I went to the junk yard and have about 8 of them left.

I will probably end up going 14 bolt. They are cheaper and easier to find.

But then it's always the same thing- once you upgrade one thing you need to upgrade other things.

If I pick up the 14 bolt or dana 70 , then I want to get lower gears- which means a nrew detroit locker for the rear. Then if I change gears in the back , I need to change gears in the front and again a new detroit in the front. It adds up real quick.

I just figure I can start accumulating the parts as time goes on and next thing you know I have them all. [IMG]

    Never satisfied, are we?

Re: Why do people like wasting other people\'s time?

Why would you need a new Detroit up front if you just wanted to change gear ratios?

And, why would you even look for a D70? Do you think you could break a 14 bolt?

Re: Why do people like wasting other people\'s time?

Beacause the carrier in front is only good to a certain gear ratio and I'm at the top of it.
I'm running 410's and I'd like to go 589's when I make the change.

The Dana70 gives you a bit more ground clearance- not much though- maybe 1/2"

14 bolts are more common , tough as hell and cheaper so I'll probably end up going that route.

We use a one ton crew cab right now to pull the bogger. I'll probably part that truck out and use that 14 bolt when I get a newer one- probably next year.

And, as another argument for a D70, the C14 has a lowest gear limit of 5.13. If you want 5.89, C14 is not even an option...

And, to add to another D70 reason to use: you can get ratios way down to 7.17 for the D60 and D70. [IMG]

Re: Why do people like wasting other people\'s time?

My preferance is a Dana 70 but I really haven't decided which way I'd go.
I wasn't planning on doing too much this winter.I just thought if I came accross the parts at a good price I'd start accumulating.

Everty time I start an upgrade it opens a can of worms. You end up doing more than anticipated

Look at the truck after three years [IMG]

I would have picked up that Dana 70 for that price.
