So I got to sit in a new dodge viper today! Beautiful car but one thing struck me as odd. The steering wheel is offset by several inches to the right of the driver's centerline. I remember my mom's 96 grand am did this too and in that car i just chalked it up to being a piece of poorly designed junk. But a $70k sports car? Anyone know why they do this its uncomfortable to me, cant imagine its better for control?

entry probably, the older ones had the pedals set so close to the trans hump, if you wore bigger than a 9 or 10 shoe, you had to drive barefoot..

its a viper dude... its all about haulin' ass. Sorta like how the old racing Cobras would burn the "AC" logos into the bottom of your shoes. If you want cozy, get a minivan.

I would think its offset so when your sitting there you could lean over a little to the shifter , hold on to the stick with one hand , the wheel with the other , and try to hold on for dear life :wink1:
