I got asked that question today and couldn't come up with and answer. Small blocks differ from big blocks because the stroke is longer right?

Everything on a big block is bigger. THe heads, bore, stroke, mains. It is weird though that they have a 400 small blocks and a 396 big block /forums/images/icons/smile.gif Thats why I like pontiacs. They are all the same and all are considered big blocks, evn the 326 /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

It's not a matter of displacement, just the external dimensions of the block itself. Small blocks have the same external dimensions from the 265 up to the 400, regardless of their internal differences in bore and stroke.

You have to think physical dimensions, not displacement when considering "big block" or "small block." /forums/images/icons/smile.gif
