    Why won\'t it run?

I have a 67 C10 with a points distributor on a 350 out of an 80's van. It was running badly with a miss, now it won't run. Power tests good through the coil, the cap and rotor are a couple of months old, but no spark is getting to the plugs. Points are new with dwell set correctly. Wires are brand spanking new. What could the problem be????

check condenser wire and see if it may be making contact and grounding out.

If you get spark at the coil wire, but not to the plugs--its got to be the rotor or cap, check carefully for carbon tracks or cracks--I've had some that looked absolutely perfect, yet the car wouldnt start till I replaced them.If you got no spark at all, even with new points and condensor and coil, and you have power to the + side of coil, you may have a sheared roll pin on the distibutor drive gear--its /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif rare, but I found one after many days of frustration on my friends 250 6 cylinder--it would run perfect, sometimes for days, then suddenly backfire and stall, after several cranking attempts it sounded like it had jumped time, then it would crank normal and start right up--seems the gear would slip on the shaft intermittently, allowing the timing to move, then it would go back to the right spot and run awhile longer. Roll pin cost 60 cents---we replaced everythimg but the gas tank trying to fix it,spent 300 bucks for nothing!! /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif

Rotor is turning... I see no grounds coming off the engine to the frame or firewall. That's bad, right? The only ground is from the battery to the alternator bracket...

Bad coil wire? From cap to coil. Or not plugged in all the way. /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif

Ok, nm I see that you said you have no spark to the plugs.... Which in that case, I don't know!

I looked through the posts, you did not mention if you have spark at the coil wire, do you?

How do I test power out of the coil into the cap???? My uncle tested it and said there was power, but I'd like to double check, you know?

The only idea I have is the ole drill bit trick. The one between the coil wire and the distributor cap and then clamp the positive lead of your voltmeter to the drill bit and the other to ground. Hope this maybe inspires someone else. Good luck.
