Will Late Model 16\" 8 lug take offs fit \'81?

Hi all, I searched for this but didn't find any answers. I just bought a '81 2500 Sub and the 16.5" tires need replacing. Noticing all the 16" 8 lug alloy takeoffs that are available I was hoping I could pick those up for basically the price of new tires. I have gotten conflicting opinions on if those will fit.

My burb is in real nice shape, no rust, new paint, '93 454 converted to carb with about 70k on it so I am debating keeping the classic look, but the PO did put a cowl induction hood on it and I think the new alloys would look pretty sharp.

Yes they will if you are talking about Chevy or GMC takeoffs. They are the same bolt pattern as your 81. Ford changed theirs in 99 to 8x170mm and these will not work on GM or Dodges cuz they both have the 8x6.5 bolt circle /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

    Hope that helps /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I think they're gonna fit. I know there's offset issues with the 6-lug wheels, but the 8-lug wheels should be okay. If I'm wrong, somebody will let me know /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

    2wd or 4wd?

IFS wheels fit, but the "centercaps" can't be made to work as is with the solid axle hubs. Dad put a pair of late model 16" wheels on his '74 K20, and ended up with no centercaps. If you are talking 2wd, can't imagine there would be any problem.

Yeah, I'm talking the 12 hole Chevy/GMC takeoffs... I knew the bolt pattern would fit (with the exception of the 99+ Fords all 8 bolts are the same pattern) what I was concerned with was the backspacing and any suspension or body interferance. It is for a 2wd also. Thanks for the input...maybe I can find someplace local to test fit them first.

The ones he's got are plastic with a Chev emblem on them, and they'd look just like yours when he was done, hub sticking out of what used to be the centercap /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Mine were the chevy style also. Be very careful when cutting the center out, they break easy. I used a lathe and a parting tool, turning VERY slow.

They did on my 91 sub, with 80 3/4 ton axles under it! BUT, they socked me for a set of lug-nuts to match! (good thing it had the 'show-nuts' & centers too!
