I now understand that we cannot just drive out and camp/wheel in Martinez Canyon. Will someone bring me up to speed on what the situation is, what the rules are and how to comply?

My second question is whether there will be enforcement out. Specifically, I don't know about having alcohol, firearms, starting camp fires, etc. Some places I have been those are all against the rules.

    WTF?:1zhelp: :1zhelp: :1zhelp:

Why would you not be able to drive out to Martinez and camp? The only requirement would be a Arizona State Trust Land permit since you must drive through State Trust land to get there.

I don't have a clue, but a post in the other Martinez thread indicates that BLM may have taken some action. That's why I asked.

Check the other thread. It was verified that at this time the only permit needed is the state trust land permit.

    Michael,

The way I understand it... you're wrong.

I've always been told that to cross State Trust Land to get to the trails, you need a STL Permit.

    Curt...? :ears:

Yes, currently you need a State Trust permit to be on Trust land. There is a proposal in the Copper Sticker program to do away with the need for a permit if you are driving through and not stopping, but that has not been implemented yet.

The only exception to this rule is if you are hunting. You do not need a state trust permit if you are hunting on the land and you are driving through it to hunt.

It's not a way to manipulate the rule, but it is the rule.
