My friend just got an older model 8074 Warn winch (6000 lb?) for his rig. He is wondering what kind of maintence this thing needs. It is an upright style winch w/ the oil bath. Does this lubricant need changed? How often and how do you do it? There doesn't seem to be a fill or drain plug. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

I don't have any experience with working on those winches. That said, I think you have to partially disasemble it to drain the oil. I would do it first thing before mounting the winch and then only do it if it got submerged after that. I would aslo use synthetic lube.
