I have been looking into winches lately and i have heard bad stuff about the motors on milemarker winches. I plan on getting either an 8000 or 9000 lbs winch. Anybody have one and wanna give me some input? I like the idea of the milemarkers as apposed to wark because of cost. But i dont wanna get one just to have it fry on me.

I personally will only run WARN. They are simply the best for wheeling.
    I run HS9500i LOVEIT! /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif /forums/images/graemlins/woot.gif

I had my heart set on a Warn 9500 but 4 Wheel Parts had the 8000lb Mile Marker on sale for $319 with free shipping

It aint a Warn but I have pulled with it hard a few times and it has done the job.And its better than no winch /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Im running a Milemarker 12,000 and i have pulled quite a few times with no problems. You can just about buy 2 milemarkers for the price of the warn. I couldnt justify spending $1000 or more on my first winch.

I got a new ramsey REP8500 ($430 shipped). It is real similar to a milemarker but carries a ramsey warranty.

Buy the 12,000lb one for $100 more. It's still $600, but at least with the extra capacity the motor will work less.

I'm planning on buying the 12,000lb one. It's rated for almost three times what my truck weighs so I think it should be sufficient.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Only thing I'd trade the MM for is a 16.5k Warn or a PTO. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Mile Marker will send you a head to head comparison of many of the name brand winches. I think it was superwinch, warn, and milmarker(hydralic and electric) in the comparison. You can get the video in vhs, dvd, or cd-rom for your computer. I watched the the video and the warn did worse than the superwinch and milemarker. It was an older design warn, but it was a new product they were testing. The good thing about the milemarkers are that neither the 9000 lbs or 12000 lbs broke their cables because they were 3/8 instead of 5/16. Anyways just a little info to look into. Here is the link for the milemarker video.

Well since the same "?" has been asked at least twice in the last few weeks I'd say it was /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif right back at ya.

Just for $hits and giggles I did a search using "winch" as the keyword going back four weeks.I found roughly 20 pages with no relative info regaurding his question /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

I may tell people to search once in a while but I tell them what key words to use and if I have time,I will search myself and post up links to the threads.

So do you have a winch or any experiance to share?

Because its not something I was intrested in I only searched back two months and got eight good hits asking the same or similar "?".
It took about 5 min. Do I need to say search the word "winch" if you want to know about winches?

BTW, Since you wanted to know, I have two winches one is an M8274-50 and the other is am XD9000i.
The 8274 is on my Blazer & the xd9k is on the trailer I just bought.
I spent less than $700 for both (500+ >200= >700) but either would have been better than a new MM. YMMV, but that is my experience.

Just to throw a pic out -

    MM E12000

From the 3 feet of pulling I've done with the truck on stands with a battery that wasn't hooked to anything but the winch, I LIKES it.

Well bigjbear i appreciate your input, but even after all you search comments and your hard work of doing a search yourself (which i did do too), no one has still answered my question. My question was have you had problems with the motor on your mm winch not what size winch should I get. So i guess untill you learn how to read and understand the question being asked, maybe you should keep your search comments to yourself because even when you try to help by doing the search yourself you still get it wrong. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
