Ok I had a Bonus that I was not expecting to get. I also sold a set of tires so Now I have a little cash that I have decided I want to blow on ME.
HS9500i is the winch I was holding out on. It$799.95 at carparts.com. Best price I could find. I could drive 5 miles down the road to fourwheelparts and they should match.
Two weeks ago my club had a giveaway and one of the things was a NEW XD9000i. I have offered the guy that won it $500. He has a 8274 so unless he mounts it to the rear he's not going to need it. He's mulling it over.
I really wanted the HS9500i because of the line speed. I have been saved by unloaded line speed in the past. I mean big time saved. Truck hopped up onto two wheels on Gardral . My bud was winching me up . I caught traction lurched forward, bounce over too one side and started to roll. The 8274 caught me with both passengerside tires off the ground and jerked me back down. It would have been VERY bad complete over maybe off the side of the mountain and roll a few more times roll if it had not been for shear unloaded line speed pulling up the slack.
When I designed the winch bumper I designed it with XD9000i Demensions before the 9500 was on the market. 8274 will not fit. the HS9500i is the second fastest winch.
SHould I save the $300 (and get a set of CTM's) and get this XD9000i or hold out and get the HS9500i?
I can't decide if I'm going to be happy with the slow line speed. I have been in a few instences where it was irritating including two weeks ago where I was being winched up a hill and if I could stay in it the truck would have got up on it's own once I got unstuck the first time. I had to stop multiple times while the XD9000i was catching up so I wouldn't run over the cable and again became stuck. I'm also tired of being a burden on my fellow (being one of the bigest trucks on the trail rides) club members by not having a winch. I'm ready to buy NOW.

If you wanted the HS9500i, buy it. Don't change your mind completely because a deal came along, it's not the way. Especially if thats teh ONLY reason the other winch beats the HS9500i.

Based on your stated feelings and motivation, I think I would get the 9500i. Otherwise you will regret it and it will bug you to no end (from personal experience, that's always what happens when I compromise that much to save a buck).

Go for the HS9500i, do some more web searching, check on Pirate too. I have seen them from time to time at 730 bucks.

By the way I got your email. I cant bend tube right now, the CUCV carcass is in the way. I am mulling it over though.

If you 'settle' for less you'll regret it...hold out for what you originally wanted. My 2 cents

DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME! cough up a few extra coins, get what you want (whick is also the best one on the market for price/performance, IMHO)

I have decided long ago that a 9500i will be the winch on my bumper...it is fast, strong enuff for a K5 and relatively easy to mount.

HS9500i all the way, Grim

/forums/images/icons/grin.gif The best defense is a killer offense!!! Build the truck to not get stuck. /forums/images/icons/grin.gif How much is $300 worth to you? Thats the real question... Good luck with your decision. I'll have to add that I'm very happy with my HSi9500..... /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Yeah I ran accross the price on that winch. Spec wise it's a HS9500i. Same motor, same housing as near as I can tell. What your getting extra is a fancy cover over the wires and little light that says "I'm hot"and . My hand does that just fine. I'll save the money cause that thing is pushing $1k. They have it priced between the 9500i and 8274.

Grimmy, go with your first instinct. If you really want the 9500 and you go with something else you will have spent much more than the $300 you saved getting what you sound like you DON'T want. Get what you want and have no regrets.

Grim buy the HS, in a few months you won't even remember what it cost. If you get what is your second choice you will be reminded every time you use it. I almost bought a different winch because of price, but I am glad I held out.(& ended up w/ a hell of a deal, but that's another story)
Your other option is to talk to Kevin & see if he will do some sort of an exchange. That might be the way to a great deal. If the thing didn't get dirty at the campground I don't see why he wouldn't.

You know I had not thought about that. Joe has not got back to me about that either. I bet if I got the winch from Joe (asuming he will sell it to me for $500 that I offered) and put $100 cash with it he would exchange it for the HS9500i That's the price I have for the used 9500i.
Wonder if he's open tomorrow. Bet he's not.

If you mean Kevin from Four Wheel Parts Specialists, or whatever their calling it now. I would not hold my breath. From my experience with him, if it aint making him easy money, he aint interested.

Yep I thought about it. Just don't think it will work with my current bumper. I even have a PTO for the case. Think I'm going to run a real air compressor head off it under the bed /forums/images/icons/grin.gif
