Im trying to setup the network in my new house, it seems that there is about 4 other wireles networks in my area that are seriously screwing with my laptop. Ive turned off broadcast for the SSID and am running a simple 64 bit Hex key for the WEP.

Well this is the wierd part, my laptop which is running Windows XP home edition wont retain the settings in it that I give it for the WEP, my other computer thats on the wireless network works just fine. Anybody know what to do? I haven't installed SP2 yet on it either.

The only thing I can think of right off the top of my head is, do you have "the Key is provided for me" checked or do you have the Network key in the box provided?

I can't understand why it won't save the settings. /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

I just set mine up last week. In the wep key screen (or nearby tab) look around for a ppoe (I think) option. Enable that (it will make the wep key unnecessary). I am not a guru at all but that was my fix.

For security sake, keep the WEP key enabled!

If you leave it turned off, even with the SSID broadcast turned off someone can easily hack your home network.

I had this problem as well. Ended up having to go into somewhere and tell the computer what network to access first and once I did that it all straightened out.

I went to SP2, it seems to have fixed soem fo the problems, except it wont connect if I leave authentication on shared, so I have to leave it on open. Im gonna try switching it to WPA-PSK and see if that works.

Sometimes it can take awhile for the router or PC to accept the changes.
My router took overnight before it decided to work right.
