Had to ditch the old P3 750 and build something new-

    P4 2.4c@3.0
    MSI 865pe NEO2 motherboard
    512 Kingston HyperX PC3500 256x2
    Radeon 9800 Pro 128
    Seagate 40gig 7200rpm hdd
    blah blah blah...

Here's the proof of the overclock:

Its amazing what a 2250mgz upgrade does for performance... /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

And I finally moved to a new place where DSL is available. I get my 768kbps-1.5mbps DSL hooked up at the end of the month....WoooHooo!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Went with Intel over AMD for a few reasons. Based on benchmarks and reviews I've read on the types of games I like to play the P4 did better than the Athlon in most of the tests. There is a raw clock speed advantage over ANY of the compareable AMD chips. And last, Intel is what I've always run, and have always had good luck. One big disadvantage was the price difference. Intel waaay more $$$ than the AMD stuff. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

You basically trick your motherboard into thinking you have a faster chip installed than what you really do. It edges out a little (in this case, a lot) more performance from your system. There are a few risks though, but if you keep an eye on heat and stuff you're usually OK.

OC makes the processor run faster. My P4 as it came from Intel, is a 2.4ghz. Right now with the overclock it's running at 3.01ghz. It's done through the BIOS if your motherboard supports. Just like boring/building an engine, there are risks to overclocking. Heat mostly. The more you overclock it, the hotter it runs. You can buy some really expensive fan/heat sinks to combat the heat. There are even water block heatsinks- they circulate water through the heatsink to carry the heat away. It gets more extreme from there. Check out www.overclockers.com if you're more curious. /forums/images/graemlins/pimp1.gif

Hey Joe, not to change the subject or anything but, shouldn't you be spending money on getting the blazer back together again? I think you still have an engine to finish up. /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

Yeah, I know....It was one or the other, computer or truck. Computer got the nod this time. Now it's on to the truck. The block has been sitting on the engine stand for quite some time now.... /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Processor was right around $200 I think..
    Mobo was $100
    Ram was $150
    New 52x CD-ROM drive $40
    Video card was $400
    Hard drive was $70
New case was $50 or so.
New 450 watt power supply $40
And a new Microsoft Intellemouse Explorer cordless optical mouse at Staples- $50.

Those prices are just what I could remember off the top of my head. Not totally accurate. The other stuff to complete the system I already had.
