Awhile back I replaced my 30 spline 10 bolt rear with a 12 bolt and just today I was browsing the new LMC catalog and noticed that they list the axle lengths as different. 12 bolt is 31-9/32 and 10 bolt is 31-5/16.
I haven't noticed a problem but should I be concerned since I used one of the 10 bolt axles in the 12 bolt???

I don't think 1/32" is enough to worry about, and if you have been running it that way for awhile with no problems then it should be ok.

The difference is in the length of the little piece of shaft that sticks out past the c-clip. You can use a 12 bolt shaft in a 30 spline 10 bolt by grinding a little bit off of the end of the shaft. If you don't grind it off, you will not be able to get the cross pin back in the carrier. I would not use a 10 bolt shaft in a 12 bolt, since there would be excessive end play, and the c-clip could fall out.

Hey, worst case your axle falls out as you are going down the road. No biggie! I am not really sure if the c-clip could fall out or not, but it sure seems like it could from the amount I had to grind off the end of the 12 bolt shaft when I put it in my 10 bolt.
