Would this suspension setup be OK for a few months?

i have access to a set of rancho 6" lift springs and shocks off of a suburban, could i take a few leaves out to get it down to 4" of lift or so and run the longer shocks till i could afford to get some Deaver springs for my truck? Im just looking for some more travel for my high speed desert excursions.

rancho's are stiff, not sure if that would do much good.

taking the springs out would help, but your are already starting with a bad spring, so all the work in the world would only get it to being decent, IMHO

They are free if i can talk my dad into giving them to me. Plus im going to have to front end out in a couple weeks to do an axle swap, so it wont be that much more work. Plus the front axle out of the burb is going into my dad's k5. The whole thing with the deaver's is that its going to be like $2K for everything i need and im still paying off my truck. So its going to be a while before i can afford those.

i dunno. i am a big proponet of doing things right the first time. i would have saved ALOT of money if i did the research before just wanting a "big lifted truck"

    Quick little tidbit on springs.....
The thicker the leaf, the stiffer the ride (that's what she said)
If there are a lot of thin leaves and they are taperd at the end, then the ride will be better.

Yep. That's for a full set of 4. The springs are custom made, military wrap. They are built to last. I'll have more info in a couple of weeks.

Isn't it around $1000 for the just the deaver's bubba? But then you gotta add shocks and air bumps and all that good stuff in too. I'm gonna go check out the springs later and see if they will work at all. I'll try and get pictures of em.

$1000 somewhere in the neighborhood for the springs. Then about $200 a shock, so you are looking at another $1000 for shocks, and that is for say Bilstein 6100s. Of course, what if you have troubles with those, then you'll have to go bigger shocks, or another shock at each corner, maybe a res. shock. Okay, looking at a minimum of $2000 right now. Air bumps come in at what $150 a piece or pair? I forgot, but I would leave those last if working on a budget.

Okay, let me get off the hottie older chick and actually get some tech going.

The leaves are pretty thick, then the ends are not tapered. If they were tapered, the ends would be u-shaped. These springs have a pretty good spring rate (just like the hottie), and with the squared off ends, they'll be stiff. See what I'm getting at?

Well, unless you were in chat last night, it's not a tech related topic so I must digress. /forums/images/graemlins/1zhelp.gif

Those look like 4" springs, not 6".

They also look like the 4" Rancho hd springs like I ran on my '84 Blazer.

I'm just trying to remember whether my 4" Ranchos had 5 leaves or 6, like yours does.

That's wierd, I can park my blazer next to this suburban and the suburban just towers over it, the suburban has a big block in it too. I geuss that means those spring are the stiff as hell rancho's then. Geuss I'll wait till I can get a set of Deaver's.
