I went over to my moms to help finish cleaning her garage. But she was done when I got there... so she said lets go get something to eat, ok, cool. So we go grab some food, and eat.... she says guess we'll head home when we finished up. I was like well I need some shampoo, so lets hit Target... so we hit Target, buy shampoo, and go to get in the car. I notice this cat hanging around when we get to the car, so I try to get it to come to me to pet it. It won't. My mom tries, walks right up to her....

Anyhow, here I sit, with said cat here at my house. I picked it up and put it in the car after we got it to come to us. This cat, I weighed it when I got home, just under 4 pounds. This cat looks to be full grown. I can almost get my thumb and forefinger around it's waist. I took some wet wipes, and wiped it off (11 of em, and all of em are black with dirt) and even now I know it's still way dirty. This poor cat smells like dirt, like parking lot dirt, if that makes sense. Like that black dirt you get on you if you touch it. Eyes were almost caked shut with crap. Hair totally matted up, areas are even missing... it looks better now after a brushing and fight with a wash cloth to wash it's face... but dang, this cat has been through the mill....

WTF is wrong with people? If you can't take care of it, why get it? I fed it and it acted like it had never seen food. Last thing I needed was a cat, but well, looks like I got one... least it's very friendly and seems to be a nice cat. I think people who do crap like this to animals are serious scum. I hope it turns out to not be sick. I shall see... anyhow, there's my pointless ramblings for the night... /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

    Sounds like a stupid cat.

When I had cats, they roamed freely and they may and may not come home for food. This guy sounds like he was too dependant on his owner, or his got a disease.

Bubba, that is painfully true... I have a few "Barn Cats". They don't last long around here, I think the mice are bigger than they are and they get eaten.

How is the cat stupid, some butt munch dumped it off in a parking lot? I doubt it was from someone's house being the Target is brand new and not really near any homes. Maybe a 1/4 miles away are the nearest apartments, but they aren't evne built, under construction, so nobody was living there had lost it. Every direction but one is fields. The other direction is towards a huge mall and a freeway, so I dunno if it came from there.... my ramblings were on idiot people who dump animals, and expect them to fend from themselves. I saw a ton of cats there last night looking all raggedy, but this was the only one I got to come up to me otherwise I suspect I'd had every cat here right now...

Most of the cats around the Target are likely feral, attracted to the new store, trying to find stuff to eat. It coul be that someone saw the feral cats and decided to throw their unwanted pet out in hopes that it would join the feral community, but if that was the case then the former housepet likely just got his ass kicked up and down the parking lot continuously. There's also the chance that it's just a feral cat that has discovered that people like cats and will often give him food if he approaches them. He may or may not disappear from your house eventually, depending on his background.

One of my cats was either dumped by a human or a feral, lost from it's mother when I found her out in the boonies near the Delta. She was 5 weeks old and nothing but skin and bones. She was really scared of me but a ham and cheese sandwich got her over her fear real fast. The vet said she probably wouldn't have lasted more than a few days longer if I hadn't picked her up, she was seriously starving. People say that when you rescue a cat like that that they will be the greatest pets, but this cat that I have is a damn moron that still hates people and is scared of anything that moves or makes noise (except the dogs, she loves the dogs to the point where it gets gross), so go figure... /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I don't understand it either. Thank you for taking it home and caring for it so much. At least there is one less animal that is suffering. I wish people would get their animals fixed so when they wander around they don't make more kitties. It is a sad thing when you think about it. There are thousands of animals put to sleep each year just because they do not have a loving home and no one can take care of them. Its so sad.

Last weekend I was at the store you know one of those strip malls. We sat in my boyfriends car having lunch when this beautiful lab began walking around the car. He was just shy of a puppy weaving in and out of cars and almost getting hit by nim rods who drive like its a highway through the parking lot. So we get out and try to catch him because if there is no one around who he belongs to its better he sit at the animal shelter then be hit. Or at least I wanted to give him my lunch and some water the poor thing looked like he hadn't eaten in a year. A large amount of people came out of the stores to watch and can you believe not one of those assholes tried to help? They all knew it wasn't our dog and were trying to keep it from getting killed. No one bothered to call animal control for us either and its hard to run around chasing a dog and talk to the cops/animal control on the phone. It made me so mad. This strip mall was right next to the highway and there was too many times he ran into traffic. We lost him and couldn't find him anymore and I am sure if we were given a tiny bit of help he would have been in a better place. I wanted to slap every one of those lazy jerks.

This cat was definately someones pet. It follows me all over the house, and when I talk to it, it meows back to me. It let me use wet wipes on it to clean it up, and it road in the car like yeah ok. Cripes better then my other cat (who decided it likes my moms house more) who acts like a complete doofus in the car and would have told me to pound sand if I opened up wet wipes by it. /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif I woke up last night and it was sleeping on my bed and stayed there all night. It'll be an inside cat for now. I probably will end up keeping it, and getting it fixed (I think it's a boy but dang it's got too much fur to tell for sure!). It's not fearful which is cool. Didn't freak when I ran the washing machine and vaccum which was cool. I'm a sucker for animals, and I think it sensed that. If I had the money, I'd be living on a ranch with about a millions critters I found... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Oh and Shaggy, way cool about the cat, you are da man! /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Mandy, something like that happened here to me recently. I wasn't expecting a police escort, but dang, if you are gonna stand there and stare, make yourself useful.... least you tried, which is more then most people do...

    ChevyCaGal, now become, "Catwoman" /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

I have two cat's and a dog, they get along, sorta. If a mouse were to get in the house, I'd have to lay it in front of the cat's though! The dog is a better mouser. /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif

haha i used to have a cat like that...died when i was 12 i think. but it was around since day one for me..and that cat took about 11 years that i lived with it to get over that scared thing. if u looked at it cross eyed it would run for it. /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif but she was a very sweet cat. she just died of old age and the related problems that go with it. great cat.

Probably related to the same f'n POS cats that have made my driveway their residence.

They must be deaf, since I guess the loud barking that signifies the presence of a large dog in the bark yard doesn't make an impression on them. I guess they just don't get it that there are dogs in this world that would go through three continents, five oceans and would roll the entire Chinese Army just to have the chance to terminate a cat's life. Of course I'm stuck fixing f'n fence because of their stupidity.

Or try this. I currently have an ample food source scampering around my attic, yet these lazy piles of monkey poo lounge on my driveway while I have to hear the same dog bark and attempt to scale the side of the house to terminate the mice.............Cats are f'n stupid.

When I was a kid and had cats, there was no problem letting them go about their merry way once they were old enough. If they didn't return, it was understood that either their 9 lives were extinguished or had set up residence somewhere else.

Cats are mentally screwed, flat goofy. They shouldn't be cuddled inside a house 24/7, they should be either allowed to roam free so they can learn how to survive or just flat out made non-entities on this planet.

As you can tell, I've had a long day and the kicker was fixing f'n fence cause a cat entered the DMZ......... /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif
