New York, Feb 19: Police called to a Long Island man's house discovered the mummified remains of the resident, dead for more than a year, sitting in front of a blaring television set.
The 70-year-old Hampton Bays, New York, resident, identified as Vincenzo Ricardo, appeared to have died of natural causes. Police said on Saturday his body was discovered on Thursday when they went to the house to investigate a report of a burst water pipe.
"You could see his face. He still had hair on his head," Newsday quoted morgue assistant Jeff Bacchus as saying. The home's low humidity had preserved the body.
Officials could not explain why the electricity had not been turned off, considering Ricardo had not been heard from since December 2005.
Neighbors said when they had not seen Ricardo, who was diabetic and had been blind for years, they assumed he was in the hospital or a long-term care facility.

Unbelievable and sad at the same time.

    sad...

Poor guy must have had no friends or family to look in on him..:( ..That is sad,no one even knew he was there??..

The TV is probably partially responsible--todays programs WILL bore you to death!..:p: ..I find it hard to believe they didn't shut off his electricity, if his bill went unpaid for a year or more!..:eek1:

Must have been a good TV set,to last that long,on 24/7 for over a year!..

On the radio, they said his house was alittle ways back from his neighbors, and locked tight. I never heard of low humidity in New York or anywhere on the East Coast before. It must have been a perfect situation to preserve him.

Maybe if his utility bills were drafted from an account that his pension/retirement (if he had one) was deposited into????

I remember a story line from CSI:NY about this same thing happening. Apparently the A/C was left on full blast and would run between the power outages thus preserving the body.:eek1:

When you said TV, I imagined a dead guy in a dress.

    I'm disappointed, though thankful.

If he had been blind for years, why was he sitting in front of the TV?

I wonder if his hand was still stuck in his pants. Al Bundy style!

I gotta admit that the easy chair next to the fridge is the funniest idea!

They say he died of natural causes. Maybe it was a heart attack? Did he have pants on?
