Has anyone else gotten into the little Wally World Crawlers. I bought the last one from our Walmart last night for $5.97 and it is awsome. They are realy a belt driven 4x4. I belive that you can also get them from 4WP and Skyjacker. I've done a few basic mods so far but there's more to come. There's a great post on PBB right now about 40 pages long on how to mod these little crawlers.

There were a few of us back in high shcool in the early 80's that used to modify the old "STOMPER" trucks. I always liked those.. We used to remove the body and glue in some ballpoint pen springs between it and the chassis... glue 2 sets of tires together to make wider tires... and I even had a set that was studded with some pins or something that I had stuck through the tires. We would also silicone the batt compartment & openings to keep water out. Then at lunch we would run 'em through mud & puddles and see who's was the best... LOL. :cool1: It was something to do until we were old enough to get the real thing... I still wish I had a couple of the K5's I had back then... every once in a while I'll look at some of them on ebay... just for chits & giggles.

Heres a couple of pics I scrounged off ebay of some of the old stompers... :cool1:

I tried looking for some of those other crawlers when we made a stop at walley world this evening while doing a little last minute shopping.. didn't see any. I saw something like them, or maybe them at toys-r-us though.. pretty cool.

Those trucks rock. Last spring my roommate and I bought a few each and customized them. A 9 volt conversion is probably the best mod. We had straw lockers (.25 inch long McD's straw over belts), cut the springs in the rear, took off the front springs and used rubber bands for straps, and also cut the tires and glued on side knobbys. They are really fun to mod and play with.

I had to buy some extra ones for "parts rigs" I kept snapping belts and wallered out the links.
(I did go through a 12 pack of batteries in 3 days though)

Bought mine on Sunday. 1 of the blue Hummer/K5 looking thing and 1 orange Jeep. I'm leaving the Jeep stock to compare. So far the Blue one has:

    cut tires
    fliped trailing arms
tires pushed out 1/2" on rims
3 penny bead locks at each wheel
    Front and rear prerunner bumpers
Rear shocks triangulated to rear bumper w/no coils
    Removed coils on front
Rubber band limiting strap on front
    removed glass and light bar
Front and rear 1/4" long Mickey D's straw locker

Ya, those things are fun. My neighbor and I would see who's could get across a little rock course we made in my wifes garden. After you mod them they don't flip over as much and are a lot funner to play with (Is funner a word?).
