What year/block casting number did gm go to the one piece rear oil seal on the 6.2 blocks. I am in need of a rebuildable block and don't want a 2 piece rear seal block. Have found one but owner can't tell me if it's one piece or not because it's still in vehicle. Thanks for any info!!!!

I just looked up some information given by the Diesel Depot, and according to them, the one-piece rear main seal block came out in '91. I don't have a casting number for that block, but I do know that the 599 number block for '92-93 is highly sought after, and considered one of the best blocks for building a motor. It's the transition block used for both 6.2L and 6.5L motors those two years. If you find a 599 6.2L block, it can be bored out to a 6.5L. Earlier 6.2L blocks cannot, because the cylinder walls aren't thick enough.
