So I hang out for awhile, schmooze with some of the drivers that I know, do some tech photography, couple Class 8 straight axles are running /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

So at 8pm sharp, all the buggies and trucks line up lead by Yerington's finest (by the way, what a fawking inbred state!!!! OK even has laws against what the cops got going on here.

So after the parade, the local hotrod crowd arrives to cruise the strip to show off their power.

First rod was a mid-80's Titanic-sized station wagon. Old boy was shifting into neutral, revving the engine, which we couldn't hear. The exhaust was blowing out a nice gray cloud of smoke, then he was dumping it. He stopped in front of us and one of the race officials suggested this old boy wind her up to 9 grand then dump it. Unfortunately, the Speed Racer was unwilling to give us a show.

Even the ricer contingent arrived to show us what they have. Flashing blue LED lights on the rear view and BFG AT's on the 80's model S-10 /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif. Needless to say during his street burnout, someone was in the crosswalk requiring the local law to have a chat with him /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif.

Oh well, go to bed early tonight and do my thing and go out and see if the hottie blond bartender at the casino will keep showing to us hardworking desert racing crowd. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Wow, who did you piss off to get stuck in Yerington, NV? /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif I played All-Star Little League Baseball there as a kid. IIRC, their team spanked us and sent us back to Hawthorne. /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

Did you happen to take Highway 95 through Hawthorne to get there?

Nah. I took US 50, then US 89 over Monitor Pass onto Nevada State Highway (55mph /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif) into Yerington.

I forgot the Bravada with the old people with studded tires that was cruising Main St. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I played my last year of All-Star Little League games in Gardnerville!! We got sent home pretty quickly there too. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif I played on the Hawthorne All-Stars team. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif That would have been 1985-86. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I graduated in 68... I remember when Gardnerville and Minden were two seperate towns! Sharkey's Nugget was something else. I think it was called the Golden Bubble or something like that. Brings back memories... /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I have a T shirt that proclaims that fact.. "Old Farts never die, they just keep lingering." Getting old is better than the alternative... /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif If you are only as old as you feel, then I must be dead... /forums/images/graemlins/pimp1.gif

I guess we did kind of get off the trail here. So what did you think of Yerrington Bubba? I haven't been there since my high school days... A million years ago... /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I really liked it. Reminded me a lot of where I'm from, small town; not this "small town atmosphere" BS that these cities out here are trying to play.

Really liked the fact that a car would be two feet from the crosswalk, I would be 20 feet and the car would stop, not like out here..............

The father and son cop kind of threw me though. The race promoter made a crack about it when we were standing around and threw in the "you only see that in OK, Arkansas and Alabama" comment, in which I had to correct him since OK has laws against that.

I was surprised there was a McD's in town, which I spent all of $15 all weekend and kept myself well fed. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

The cashier at the grocery store BS'ed with me for a few minutes after she saw my license, her mom is moving here.

BS'ed with the motel owner (70 years old, WW2 vet) for a good 20 minutes when I was checking in.

All in all, probably did me good since it was so much like where I'm from. I'd go back.

I agree... I really like Nevada... As long as you keep your nose clean it's a great place. Not a good place to get into trouble though. In Nevada, crime is illegal... They actually put criminals in prison there. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I have heard of a few criminals who somehow squeezed through the cracks of the law in Nevada. They were all found dead from hunting accidents... Those damn hunters... LOL!!! /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

I could tell you some stories about remote mineshafts..... Anybody ever drop into JR's guns in Yerington? Nice folks that will even take good care of California types.... There is also this other guy who used to have a shop over by the new strip mall. He moved his gun shop to his house which is over by the airport. Also a nice guy but a pain to find. Right before the assault weapons ban went into effect, I made the rounds of these guys, along with Ken's Sporting Goods in Bridgeport, and picked up a good selection of 20, 30, and 40 rd. magazines for my Mini-14's. My standard line when they asked how many magazines I wanted was "all of them"....
