ok i know that on a track the yfz will spank anything out there and the raptor isnt as fast in the corners. but ive heard that out on the dunes the raptor will pull away from the yfz because it has more torque. considering that 80% of my riding will be done on the sand and the rest on trails blasting across the desert. i dont honestly forsee me ever riding on a motocross track with this thing. so if you were me wich one would you buy?

They are both a sweet quad. The raptors are known for having a few problems with the engines. The early ones also had a huge problem with the starter gear. It was made of plastic and would strip out very easily. I believe it was later resolved. I'd say it is all up to what you are wanting to use it for and what your wanting to pay. Also, if you plan on mods, which one has more aftermarket and or cheaper parts.

Raptor. Its just something else to ride. /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif My first time I rode one, my buddy told me to WOT. I did and the damn thing just launched a wheelie with me holding on the bars and letting off the throttle right away. /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif And that was on my grassy yard, too. /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif

I work for a company that makes custom Harley and cruiser motorcycle exhasut. We just started making systems for the 4 wheelers. When the ATV guy was desiging the systems for the Raptor, 400EX, Polaris Preditor etc, he'd build a pipe, bolt in on the bike, then take it outside and scream up and down the parking lot pulling wheelies and $hit to test them out. He made a comparison to the Raptor 660R and the Honda 400EX that I still remember. He said riding the 400ex was like riding a more refined, well mannered sports car. Riding the 660R was like riding a loud, obnoxious, in-your-face-horsepower muscle car. Not sure of the YZF, but I get the idea that the same comparison could be made. Seems that it would be aimed at competing with the 400EX type bikes.

Here's the website for the ATV division of the place I work...

    neither one, get a bike /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif

j/k i would get the raptor. ive rode my cousins and it is preaty fast and torquey for a quad. im not sure if the motor for the 450 is the same between the bike and the quad but the 450 bike has some seriour torque but not enought power to ballance them out.
if i ever had to get a quad for any reason i would get a honda trx450r the honda crf450 is faster than the yzf450 (talking bike here) and torqueier. the crf is more ridable and alot faster than the yamaha.

get the 450!!! Its WAY faster and it will fit in the back of a blazer with the top on. I went looking for either a raptor or 450 and the raptor is like 1 foot to tall.

I'm partial to the Bombardier DS 650 Baja. This thing is bad.

    Check this out.

450 by far. The only reason you dont have the after market parts for it is because it just came out. Its lighter and has just as much hp as a raptor when they are both piped not to mention that it hits a grand later (BIG plus in the sand). And torque makes no difference in the sand, just look at the Banshee.

And who knows, maybe you'll like riding so much that racing wont be out of the picture.

    450

how serious are you about purchasing one of these?

Do you ever get out to CA. I am in Orange County.

Let me know and I may be able to get you a test ride on one or both.

Where do you go ride at? When I go I usually head out to Buttercup(Gordon's Well).
