    york compressors who\'s got one

okay here's the deal i'm looking for bracket ideas so i can mount my york compressor. the write up on the tech section is great and it is right when it says the hardest part of the whole thing is making the bracket! I've got a very simple engine set up the alt. is on the pass. side and power steering on the drivers side. theres no A/C or any of that fancy stuff in there. the one idea i had was to fab a bracket so it attachs to the drivers side head and uses the power steering pump as the tensioner but i'm alittle leery of hanging 30 pounds worth of compressor off the side of the head. what do you think or got any pics.

Hey, ive got the same prob. im runnin it off of my ps pump. I pulled mine from an Fo*d Bronco. I took the bracket, which i think i will mount the bottom of it to the ps pump tensioner, and make a piee to bolt the other side into the block. My hardes part is finding a belt. i think i will need a 41" belt, and i should be set. O if u know n e one else that needs a compressor, let me know. i think i can get another one for $10-$20.

yup saw that, but notice 74 in my sig that makes it a pre 88 engine plus that braket is for serp. belt setup. unless it can be modified to work on mine plus it's very spendy$$$$$. thanks

I made a York bracket for my 500 caddy that were cheap and easy to make. The only thing I had farm out was an 3/8ths milled slot to adjust belt tension the rest was done with basic hand tools, and a little torch and welding. I haven't checked, but I think you could set up a SBC or BBC in a similar fashion. If you would like some pics I will pass them on.

If you could post them, that'd be cool. Or send the pics to me. That is my next big project. Of course, I may have fun as I have p/s and a/c. Maybe I can put mine where the AIR pump used to be.

I wouldn't worry much about the weight. That is similar to how an a/c compressor mounts. My a/c is mounted to the header bolt, the head on the front and the p/s bracket. And it easily weighs what the york does.

Re: york compressors who\'s got one

Hey beater, if you didn't notice, my reply was to krebs. But thats ok. Anyhow the bracket kit doesn't matter if it is serp or v belt style. The brackets are the same but they won't work on your rig like you said, only because of how and where the later engines accessories are mounted. As for the compressor, either clutch will work on it serp or v belt. When i purchased my york from the wrecking yard it was a v belt but i changed the clutch to serp.
