What are the differences with the Z71s? A friend has a Z71 parts truck with a bad motor. He took the SM465 and that whole assembly for his 88 GMC and I just saw somewhere that Z71s have diffrent spring rate torsion bars. Would it be beneficial to take the Z71 torsion bars and put them in the 90 GMC standard 4x4 I am getting? I know Z71s have different shocks, skiplates, gears, and posi but never knew about torsion bars.

I just read somewhere that using Z71 Torsion bars in a non Z71 can provide about an inch of lift, anyone?

Same torsion bars, just different shocks a few skid plates. Oh, and the 30 hp stickers.

people seem to say the Z71 bars have a different spring rate. I kind of remember that now. I think they are like the same as the 3/4 ton torsion bars.

they say over at Fullsizechevy that they are the same as a rule but some random Z71s have different spring rates. Guess no package or years to focus on with that.

I want the Dick Cepeck 6.5" kit and it seems the guys over there really like the kit so that makes me feel good about it. They definetally have a lot more IFS chevy's over there, seeing as thats mainly what the site is really about.

there are different tbars on all the 4x4 trucks(z71 pkg or not). to know which ones you have, you gotta read the codes on the ends of them and reference them to GMs list.
