tailgate latch

So in the last two years that my mother has had my old 02 Silverado I've had to replace 4 tailgate handles. As most of you know they suck and the tailgates do as well. They're one of gm trucks shortcomings that were not remedied until 08. In the interest of no changing these junk plastic handles...

Hi i recently picked up an 84 k5 blazer and some things are disconnected on it in places. I am curious if anyone has a diagram or picture of the how the tailgate latch handle mechanism goes together? I attached a photo. Any help is appreciated. Thank you Nigel
