03 1500, Sold it.

I'll also confirm the extra wire is for the "center high mounted stop lamp." My 06 is the same way I found the call out for which wires are for which function in the owners manual by accident one time.

What's the dark multi-holed square tube ... thing ... on the passenger side, outside of what looks like a step stool?

May he screwed the pooch on the truck today.

For those living 7nder a rock, we had a sucky storm blow through. Wasn't so much the snow as the wind. 80+ mph, so the drifts are big. Some friends are taking care of his mom and she needs dialysis tomorrow morning. 6 foot drift 50 yards wide on there private road. No county plow. So I load up th skid and run up after lunch. Get to digging and was about 10 feet from being done and a county grader showed up. I moved and he finished and made it twice as wide in 30 seconds. Ok, might have taken him 15 minutes, but I had been there for 2 hours.

Load up and head home. Unload the tractor and moved the trailer to its parking spot. Drive the truck to the front of the barn and notice steam.?????? Temp gauge his hot, but not pegged. No engine noise. Passenger radiator hose is hissing. I think.

Work in the barn for a while. Need to move some things and the buick to get the truck inside. Go in the house to fix dinner and get a call that the heater at the church that I no longer work for wont turn on. Pilot is out.

So I jump in the truck because all of my tools are in it. Get 1.5 miles down the road and the truck goes in limp mode. Looking directly into the sun so I was not paying attention to the cluster. Check engine light is on and the temp gauge is pegged. Park it in the dirt. Guy from church comes to get me while another friend heads down to pick me up. We drag the truck home. I fired it up to get it to the barn. Was not making any weird noises. So maybe I got luck.

Time for an 8.1 swap?

Probably fine, but you won't know until you look into it. Most limp mode / engine de-rate type deals are designed to keep catastrophic damage from happening, so I'd lean towards fixing the leak and running it.
