what is the differance between a 1/2 ton dana 44 and a 3/4 ton dana 44 ?
the 3/4 ton has 8 bolt hubs, heavier duty brakes (most likely with heavier spindles) and possibly a heavier duty u-joint.
Well from my experiences, the only differences are:
8lug bolt pattern
Bigger brakes (3/4)
and some have the large hubs
Other than that, those are the only differences I have seen. I am running a 8lug 44 swapped to a 6 lug and all you need to switch is the backing plates, rotors and small hubs from a six lugger.
The u-joints are the same ones I buy for my old 10 bolt 6 lugger.
I called a few drivetrain places before I did the swap and they all told me I was wasting my time because there wasn't that big of a difference between the 10 and 44. Then I told them my 10 bolt had 3.08 gears and the 44 had 4.10's and then they said it was worth it, but if it weren't for the gear they said I was wasting my time.
