what's the deal? i can't get it out - the inner portion, not the actual part you turn. how is it different from my d44?

10 bolt 4x4 lock out hub...

ok, i see there' s a ring to keep part of the 4x4 in place - how do i get that out?

It sounds like the ring you're talkin about is the large retaining ring. I'll use a right angle pick as well as a flathead screwdriver to dig that out. It's kinda tricky till you get the hang of it.
After that, the hub piece might still be tricky to pull out. i usually thread a couple of the tiny screws back in for something to pull/wiggle the piece out.
