i have a 80 chev with a twelve bolt rear end, and im gutting it for parts for the 91 blazer. well my question is can i pull the axles outta the '80 12 bolt and use them in my '91 10 bolt. (backup for the trail)
the spline count is supposed to be the same, but i was wondering if there was axle od and length differences. has anyone tried this?

12 bolt are longer shafts , 10 bolt are shorter shafts .

12 bolt will not fit in the 10 bolt , you would have the drum sticking out and shoes exposed .

The only way it would work is in an emergency , and that is by adding some weld on the end of the 10 bolt shafts and putting them in a 12 bolt . Did that for one month .

the 10b has the auburn electric locker in it, and the gearing in the 12b is wrong(3:73) id have to change it to match my front diff(4:10) i bought the truck with this setup and until i can afford the 14bff, im kinda stuck, school and all.
So the 12b axle shafts cant be shortened? cheaply:haha:?
