yup, I'm doing the shirts! I should have enough space its a burb afterall lol.... plus its not alot of shirts like last year. thanks for the offer. but just in case I'll let u know :waytogo:
 
I installed the yoke, tapping it down over the splines. A smear of silicone sealer on the lead of the splines to keep oil from traveling through the splines. With the HiLift bar clamped on, I could hand torque the locknut down until starting bearing on the crush sleeve. From there its slow and careful to edge-up on the final preload.
I didn't own most of these before starting this job.
I used new bolts, bought from McMaster-Carr. Used LockTite 271 (red) on the bolts. Diff is ready for PowerTrax and axles.

Yeah, its on the road. I also put the front D-shaft back in, front diff goes in tonight. I'll finish the front axle shafts tonight or tomorrow.
Gotta start packing.:thumb:
 
Well, finally got around to finishing the job.
Diff is in.
Pic #2 is how I keep the axle clean while I reinstall it.:D

:haha: I forgot to follow-up.
A bunch of us went to Azusa on Sunday, so I put in ~100 miles highway/street. Ratio seems like I couldn't have gotten any better than the 3.90s, speedo is not correct but I don't think its far off, 3200rpm at 75mph(?). Of course in dirt, 4L, first gear and LSDs, it crawls like a Cat.
It works!!
 
Wow, I just read this entire thread and it looks like I'm in for some long nights. I didn't ever think that it was this involved.

I figured I'd yank everything out, pop the new pinion in and tighten the nut back up, bolt the new ring to the carrier and pop it in using whatever shims it took to move it to the right or left so it didn't have too tight or loose of a gear mesh with the pinion. Guess I was wrong.

The first one takes maybe 4X the time to do the second, because the learning curve is serial for the most part. The second and subsequent take less time because a lot more can be performed in parallel.
Like I said in the PM, basic and usually not anticipated is the additional tool costs.:D
