14 bolt ff hub questions

aaaa...i thought all d60 was 6 prong, i haven't torn into my front yet, does d60 indeed have 4 prong? that would explain why the 4 prong at big box stores said 3/4/1 ton...i was argueing w/ them 1 ton had 6

Dunno mine did but it has the pin style lock washer not the kind that you bend the tabs on. Maybe the 6 prong use the bent tab style and 4 prong use the pin style.

D60's came with both 4 prong and 6 prong nuts.

And to answer your last question about using newer nut with older nut NO you cannot IIRC becuase there is no "lock pin" on the inner nut to engage in the washer to keep the inner nut from tightening up against the outer bearing.

"lock pin" on the inner nut to engage in the washer to keep the inner nut from tightening up against the outer bearing.

the retainer washer has a tab in the 1/4'' groove and a tab bent over inner nut, so if replaced snap ring w/jamb nut would be against that washer, shouldn't tighten inner nut would it? just sandwich the retainer?

what torque should I apply to the spindle nut? The specs I find are for the 2 spindle nut w/ washer type. Say 50 foot pounds?

Torque the inner nut to 50 ft. lbs. while rotating the hub then back it off and re-torque to 35 ft. lbs. and then finish off with whichever style of locking mechanism you have.
