I have a 14BFF rear that I want to convert to disc brakes. I'm looking on the SSbrakes.com site for calipers and rotors, but can't find what I need, so I'm using their application guide which is asking the year of vehicle. How late did GM use these rears?

Hey Brian, common practice here is to use some aftermarket brackets from DIY4X or similar, then use readily available rotors from a 80's 3/4 ton front, and then either caddy calipers w/ parking brake attached, or an 80's 3/4 ton front caliper and use another avenue for a parking brake.

fyi there is diffrence in around late 80's-early 90's when thay started doing pop off drums WITH OUT pulling the wheel hub n drum as a unit. these REQUIRE diffrent brake parts for disk swap. the axle spindle is shorter and older parts / hubs will NOT fit. i found this out the hard way 1 time :doah:

and caddy calipers are crazy money and most dont like the weak e-brake function and almost custom cable hookup.

if you need e-brake get a drive line e-brake from high angle driveline or other places.

like said before use vendor here like diy4x / ruffstuff specialtys / ord and then you go to local store and get your own rotors n pads cheep . hit a junk yars and even find a set of calipers cheep if not reman for 20-300 each and be done with it.

that kit on ebay is not the best with bolt in spacers for the bracket. get a 1 peice bent bracket like our vendors sell.

I would much rather support our vendors here but I'm a little unsure of exactly what I need if I do it ala-carte. That kit caught my eye as it had all the misc hardware. Can someone point me to a thread or provide a complete list of what I'll need to make the swap?
Thanks!

These from DIY4X -

With 1978 K20 front rotor and used a 1978 K20 front caliper...

One thing that kit doesn't provide is soft lines to the caliper, so you'll still need to do some parts sourcing yourself. Really the rotors, calipers and pads are dead easy to find yourself...it's all K20 front parts. I did my rear disk conversion at the same time I swapped in a D60 front. I 'sourced' my rear disk parts off the 1977 D44 I pulled out from under the front.

I used some used front lines I had as well as a pair of used line brackets welded to the diff tubes for the transition from hard line to soft line. Don't forget to always use new copper gaskets at the caliper itself.

Earlier (D44) K20 calipers use a 7/16" banjo, later calipers (10 bolt and D60) use a 10 mm banjo.

That's a lot of good info; I have some reading to do. Thanks! Looks like I'll be able to (hopefully) use the same calipers/pads/rotors front/back.

Eldorado Calipers

I paid $800 for these Eldorado calipers. They came with the Eldorado attached. Rebuilt 500 engine, etc.. Got the DIY4X brackets already and a hydroboost unit. I have heard that if you have the larger front brakes of a dana 60, you don't require a proportioning valve.
