I was working on settting up the gears in my 14 bolt last night and when I came to press on the front pinion bearing I maxed out my press before I got the bearing down to the race. I have a 12 ton press so do I just need more pressure or am I doing something wrong? I have heard it is really tough to start the crush sleeve with a wrench so I was gonna just barely get it started with the press. Any help is much appreciated.

Which pinion bearing? The one by the head of the pinion? Are you sure you are trying to press on the correct pinion bearing? The two bearings have a different ID.

The bearing closest to the yoke. I am almost positive I have them on correctly however I will pull them off and double check.

When people say to put the crush sleeve into the press first to get it started, they mean put just the crush sleeve in the press and JUST BARELY start crushing it.

I have never used a press on a crush sleeve. My 3/8" IR impact gun has been more than strong enough for every diff I have ever setup, including my 14 bolt.

That was the plan to just barely start crushing it. I am going to pull it apart and double double check I have the bearings in right and then give it another shot. Thanks for the help.
