The progress on my Suburban has stopped as I am picking up a sm465 and np205 to swap in place of my blown 700r4 and np208. So since I can't do anything for two weeks I decided to jack up the rear and see if I had a traction device. The weird thing is, when I spin a wheel the other one doesn't move but the pinion is spinning. When I spin both wheels the same direction at the same time the pinion spins, and spinning them opposite directions at the same time reverses the pinion.
The way I was raised, to check for a traction device such as a locker or posi is to spin one wheel. If its an open diff the wheels will spin opposite directions and if its a posi they will spin the same direction.
So what gives? Yes I need to drop the cover and look but I'm about ready for bed and I don't feel like getting into it tonight.

A gov-lock might act like an open diff just spinning the wheels by hand--it takes a 100 rpm or so difference in wheel rotation for one to lock up..
