Ive heard about these gov-locks, how do they work , most people dont like them but i dont know why?

Most people don't like them in the 10 and 12 bolt axles because they explode. The one in the 14 bolt is much stronger and you can probably get it a lot cheaper than a used detroit. They don't hold quite as well as a detoit but if you drive on the street at all that can be a good thing. If you want detroit like locking power you can always replace the guts of the gov-lock case with a trak-loc (??) locker. I believe that's the one that fits inside the gov-lock carrier.

I don't have one, but he does (Topdown)... they work by sensing when one wheel is spinning faster than the other and then a clutch releases and locks the axles together. It's kind of like an open diff until it activates (it will jerk the truck a bit) and then it's basicly a spool.

I bought it for $50.00 from a friend to put in my 14FF that I sold to Clubba... so if I get $20.00 plus shipping out of it I will be happy... mostly I just need/want to get it off my garage floor so I can get my blazer inside. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
