So i have a used set of 39.5x15x15 tsl swampers layin around, but they are on 6 lug wheels so i have to buy new rims! which should i get the 15x8 or 15x10?

For a 39.5x15x15, I'd run a 15x10 or 15x12. They'd probably be almost an inch taller on a 15x8 tho.

Would it be safe to run em on 15x8 though because i have seen a couple rigs with the same tires and the 15x8 rims. but when i get boggers for the back i will definatly go for 15x12 i the back.

I'm a firm believer in the 15x8's for off-road use. Both myself (39.5x15) and 78Buford (42x15) run 15x8's on heavy fullsize rigs and neither have lost a bead yet with single digit air pressures and hard use. 78Buford has a moderate big-block and beats the truck like a red-headed stepchild. Keep in mind that we both have reverse backspaced wheels, so I'm sure that helps some.

I do agree that 15x10's might be better for street driving.

Would it be safe? What do you think is not safe about it? 78Buford drove his rig to and from the trails for quite awhile with this setup at legal speeds on the highway (not like he was putting down backroads), most of the trips were probably in the 200+ mile roundtrip range, including a 500+ mile roundtrip.

Well when i said safe i didn't mean like hurt someone safe, i meant like i dont want to ruin the tires safe. But i might just have to go your way with rims, and my truck doesnt see much steet unless i take it out to showboat it around town. And what do you mean reverse backspace wheels?

I'm going to running 15x8 with reverse centers with my 39's

There is no apparent damage to the tires after years of use and several thousand road miles on them.

Reverse backspace wheels - the normal backspacing on 15" wheels is usually around 4-4.5", and you can go down to maybe 3.5" BS before the design of the wheel shell simply doesn't allow you to move the center in further (for less BS). If you flip the shell around you can place the center in a location for less BS. Not sure how familiar you are with wheels and mounting tires, but the both sides of the wheels are not the same. They have what is called a "drop center" that basically allows the tire to go over the lip of the wheel much easier and this "drop center" is only on one side. Normally it's on the outside edge, but on reversed wheels it's on the inside.

Your right on me not knowing much about i just learned somethin new today! I think ill be going with the 15x8

p.s. i just got my offroad design shackle flip today and they are saaaaweet.:saweet: :grind::weld: Now i just gotta cut and grind.

the way ive always been told is you want the center of the tire to be right down the middle of the caliper...if the tire is sticking out like mad its hard on wheel berings..i dont think this matters 2 much in a 60 but 60 wheel berings are EXPENSIVE...thats all i can add

so what's the benefit of it being on the inside over the outside?

The main benefit is that on reversed wheels you can get less backspacing. I also think the reversed wheels hold the outer bead a little better, and the outer bead have the majority of forces acting on it and is what side you will debead 95% of the time.
