1945 Willys MB. Part 5, Actually doing things

Low slung big tired Willys Mb

And I didn't get my life together. I found out shortly after posting this that I'm moving to Alaska. So again it went to the back burner while I figure all that out.

It is out of the garage again. Its in a trailer now. And actually this morning I finally went and got a title for it. Before I just had the Vermont registration that I had used to get ownership of it.

Gotta love how moving messes everything up. I moved to Moab and was there 3 yrs with 3 different houses and then went to Idaho on like 2 months or less notice and was there 10 months in 2 different houses and then back to where I was before Moab on 2 months or less notice and in a rental for the last yr and a half that finally sold and been in our camp trailer the last 7 wks waiting on our house build to be done then I think I can finally settle in for good. Hope Alaska works out good for you. Might need to keep the top on this little guy up there though if you get it going.

Either one is good , get more house for your money in Wasilla but the commute is longer .

Hit me up when you get here , I work in Anchorage. Live In Wasilla

Whats your typical commute time from Wasilla? Ill be working on base. I know its just the one road into town. I'm not concerned about mileage as much as being stuck in traffic for a long time.

I live outside of Wasilla, I work right outside of base . My commute time in good weather is 45-50 mins door to door .

Winter time typically add another 10-15 mins for normal days . A bad storm or a wreck can double out triple that number .

A little bit of an update on this. I'm tired of procrastinating about and waiting for perfection. So Its getting slapped together so I can drive it this summer. I will fix, finish, and modify form there

I got my wire harness finished up outside of the vehicle, needs to be installed and finished up. Ordered another fuel system so I can plumb that differently. I really liked the ease of the push lock type hose on my last trucks, so I am going that route here too. Some Walbro pickups to put inside of the tank. And ordered a new battery box and group 51 battery. I was originally running a 34/78 but that battery got put in my GMs and sold with my 98. I never needed a battery that big to handle this little jeep anyway. This new one is half the size and weight.

Five relays with fused inputs and five fused circuits. Plenty for the jeep. As of now, two relays for the cooling fan, one high, one low. Though I may drop that down to one relay with some clever wiring. One relay for all accessory power. One for an air compressor. And one for future upgrades.

Here we go.

Spent the day cleaning the garage, hanging lights, and putting away everything that was piled on top of the jeep. Figured out where I wanted to mount the fuse box, figured out where I want to mount the fuel pump. Those are two simple things that I have been hung up on for a while. Unfortunately its been so long since I thought about this thing, I forgot how I was going to wire the fan. Probably should have wrote that down.

Debating if I want to over complicate my headlight mount or keep it simple. I have this Baja deigns lights kicking around in the garage. I could just screw them into my fenders like pictured. Or make a bracket that mounts them level.

Also one of my favorite tools, but its also super annoying since the nutserts sit proud of the surface. I should just buy weld on nut plates.

I need one of those Astro kits. I've got a big 1/4" rivet gun but not the stuff for doing inserts.

Got my gauges in the mail the other day. VDO for the 4 smaller ones and autometer for the tach since vdo didn't have 3 3/8" tach.

I also found this piece of 1/4" thick aluminum. Ive had these honeywell locking switches around for a while. Why not use them on this thing. Plan is to drill and tap the aluminum and screw the switches in from the backside. Ordered a 15/32-32 tap. Hopefully its the right size

Cool!
Excited to see your flat fender updates!

Put together the switch panel. It’ll probably get painted green to match everything else. I wanted to make it big enough that when I unbolted it from the dash i could somewhat easily get to the bolts for my brake and clutch masters. And it’s covering up tons of holes drilled for various switches over the years. I don’t even want to think about how expensive this switch panel is.

Back to working on this thing a bit. Finished that switch panel wiring. Installed an in tank fuel pump to free up some room and modernize things a bit. I picked up a slider kit a while back and finally got around to putting that together.
