1950 CJ3A Beater

I swapped a 1.6L tracker engine into a Suzuki samurai to replace the 1.3 and I’ll agree it felt like a hot rod
I can't find adapter kits for anything other than GM V8 or SBF.

I would prefer mechanical diesel or carbureted whatever instead of computer control. I like the thoughts of the 5-wire wiring harness.

You mean gm.
All gm will bolt to the same bellhousing.
Well except the odd modular in-line engines in the trailblazers

The small 4s and 60° V6 are different too. I considered a 3.1/3.4 engine with a carb but the bellhousing with mechanical clutch is the hold up on that route.

Hey what are you laughing at that's a righteous Indy car engine right there. I actually saw one in person, at my coworker's dad's shop they a ton of cool stuff I'd never seen, some I had only heard about, most was totally new to me.

In case you haven't read thru it.
That thing is awesome. Gonna read through it more in depth later.

But that is WAY more than I'm looking to do. I just want it stock and ready for adventures.

4.3 90 degree V6. The made a million, carbing one would be cake...or run the TBI most came with. Plenty of tq to be fun, not enough to instantly break shit.
Or the 3.8
I have a gm goodwrench crate engine that I wanted to put in my corvair but I sold it.
Too bad I am on wrong coast

I only mentioned the 4.3 because it's way easier to find than the Chevy 229 (3.8) or the Buick 231. Those used to be a dime a dozen, harder to find now.
