1972 Buick Skylark

My reservation with the 200r4 is having to deal with the TTV cable.

They work fine on setups that came that way factory equipped. It's connecting them to aftermarket carbs and throttle bodies that I find more problematic; the geometry never seems quite right.

I totally agree. Mine was the oddest of them all using a 700r4 behind a 5.3 with cable throttle. Bowtie Overdrives is the only one that makes a kit for that combination so I got it. They had good instructions, parts were well made too. It was still a little finger puzzle to set up on the throttle bracket, but we figured it out. Once we set it right it worked like factory and never had a problem out of that transmission.

They do sell kits for different carb setups under the TV Made EZ line. Edelbrock, Holley, q-jet and demon. Comes complete with the cable and carb brackets. They are proud of the price but as I found it was worth it.

Now that you mention it, I do remember Bowtie Overdrives was the beat option for custom. I don't suppose there's a BOP electronic trans option.

Put a BOP to chevy trans adapter on it, and put a 4l60e trans in it
But everybody on the internet says that they are junk!! And no one ever concedes to what BS people do to them before they die. And no one will believe me about what a 700R4 put up with in Monte Carlo which has a little supercharger.
:haha:

#neverbeensideways...

I have an Art Cart 200-4r in a Chevelle behind a 6" rod 350, tv cable was no big deal to set up. I will say I am using a quadra jet thou

No, I always treated my 700R4 with upmost respect! Never raced. Never hot rodded. Only driven to church on Sunday...........Yea right. Over 500 passes down the dragstrip. Over a 100 of them in the 12's. 30 miles sideways, at a drifting event. 60,000 miles on the street, driving it like I was at the track! Trans is now in my C10 doing daily duty! Love that transmission!

Got the exhaust setup on the car. I'm not used to doing cars and not being able to tuck the exhaust up high.

Here's the factory crossover with the ball and socket flanges. I was a little worried about the bolts that hold the flange. They thread into the manifold and I was sure they'd break. Luckily they didn't.

Here's the change, from 2" to 3" single.

Had to pie slice the 3" and hammer it down to the factory pipe. I tried to put the 3" as close to the merge as I could.

Heard too many stories about guys getting squished so I had 5 points of safety. Especially cautious since this was the first time lifting the front and working under it.

Added a v-band joint ahead of the muffler to make dropping the exhaust easier in the future. The rest of it is welded.

I like my new welder running the .024 wire to weld exhaust. I can actually run a bead. Could get better welds if I did it more often.

The finished product. It sounds really good.

Here's before video.

And the after video.

Then it sounded really good getting flat towed behind the pickup! About 10 minutes into our drive, it doesn't want to go forward anymore. :(

I was hoping it just need fluid. It was 1/2qt low, but topping that off didn't help.

It has been shifting real soft but I had chalked that up to being a passenger car. Now I'm thinking it was probably letting go.

I have a known good chevy TH350 that would just need a bellhousing adapter. I've done a little searching for a 200r4 or 700r4 trans, but there aren't any around here. I haven't been able to find info on BPO donors for the 200r4 if I wanted to try the junkyard. So I'm planning to put the TH350 I have in the car. Plus having the adapter will make it easier to pick up an OD trans in the future.

I'd like to get it up and running again so we can keep driving it and finding the bugs.

200r4 time. Although the o/d makes it a 120 mph cruiser with the low rear gear.
Chance is that it already has a really tall rear gear. With a th350 it is probably still good for 120. Might take a couple of miles to get up there but the math says it's possible.

I have a 2wd 700R4 if you are interested. I have a couple of transmissions to come to CO and pick up sometime.

I also have a BOP T350 4x4 application if you get the hankering to put a front axle under it.

Ought to have one rebuilt for pretty cheap. I have a great old school builder in south denver thats awesome and incredibly fair if ya need.

What rear gears does it have? Most had 2.56, to 2.73's. The GS cars usually had 3.42's. My 70, 315HP 350 car had 2.56's. People would ask "how fast will it go?" I would always say, " It will go to drive". Past 120mph, past L1, past L2, and stop with the needle pointed straight down at Drive!s-l500.jpg

I had my Nova with the 307 in it up to 120 and it had a th350 and 2.73 gears.

Scary thing was the car wasn't very "tight" at speed. More like the parts were merely flying in close formation with each other. Might have been the wasted upper control arm bushings. Not sure I was 17 and very stupid when it came to stuff like that. I'm really surprised I made it to 21 with that car as I had a couple really close calls.
