1975 K20 The War Wagon

Old ass sagging springs 75’ K20 4x4 and an owner with a dream
Are the shackles supposed to sit vertical or is there supposed to be an angle to them?

Sweet! Thank you! I really really like this company. ORD Rocks!

Do you think 35’s will rub with a taller 4” of lift? I really don’t want to trim. The body is rot free. I like the idea of keeping the body panels stock, uncut. In another 20 years when these trucks are worth good money, i don’t want the body to be hacked up thus driving the value down.
35s and 4" is just about right. you have to choose the wheel offset wisely or there might be just a touch of rub front rear inside when turning over an obstacle.

Now for the pinion angle, you will want to address this when you have the truck sitting where you want it with most if not all the travel trail goodies in the bed.
there are 2 type of drive shaft set ups.
I am guessing you have a 1 piece drive shaft and 2 u joints total.

2nd from top is how you need to set angles.

switch fat side red arrow to front and bring the pinion blue arrow down.

As for the shackle angle you need to have the weight on the springs, and you do want some angle to the rear 30-45°.

about like this.

If the shackle angle won't sit right, try swapping the flip hangers side to side

edit don't worry about torquing the u bolts down until everything is dialed in, u bolt only stretch so many times before they are junk.

Well shit. Headed back to work tomorrow. Its going to be about a week or so before i can get back to the truck. What i have now is 2 degree shims, fat side to the back which makes the angle to the drive line look good. Its in a straight line from the diff yoke up the drive line. Ive used the U bolts twice now in doing that. This second time was kind of a pain reusing them. I cranked them down both times now not knowing I would have to undo them. Should they be replaced at this point? Anyway, the angle looks good now but did i use the 2 degree shims wrong? The font of the truck still needs to be done and the bed put back on before i can see how everything sits naturally.

well the 2° could be what's needed. there is no recipe. I would wait till get the front done, bed on and on the ground then take some measurements.

Who's springs are you using in the front a kit or alla cart ? If a kit and the instructions say to but shims between the crossmember and frame do not do that.
bolt the crossmember flat to frame.

Now im wondering if i got the wrong rear springs. I just measured them. 50” eye to eye, not measuring along the arch. Longer springs would put that angle in the shackles right? If i changed sides for the hangers it would move the angle the wrong way. Im 99.9% sure i put them on the right sides. I think the damn springs are to short.

So what 2wd steering box is recommended for the crossover? And what kind of shit am i in for? Im going to try and get it ordered this weekend.

I've used a napa reman with good results, and I've used a west Texas offroad ported box with good results. If you aren't going to wheel it hard or run bigger than 35's I wouldn't spend the money on a portedbox

Is Readhead worth the money? Also, YouTube got me. I ordered a track bar. With a track bar, that means i can ditch the sway bar right?

A track bar has nothing to do with a sway bar.
A track bar might be useful on a lift 6" or more because it prevents the axle from shifting sideways.
The sway bar prevents it from leaning left and right.
You have to tell us what you feel the truck is doing and we can help you make it better

There are some good you tube channels, and more than enough that are a total waste servers, and bunch of BS.
Same for 99.9% of yhe comments on a FB group question.
There is always more than 1 way to do things, but for most of us the tried and ture will do for us. Members at CK5 know these methods. If you see something that interest you ask about here before hand.

Wtf guys. I still have the old ones i pulled off. 26” and 26” which is what i ordered and put on the truck.

So why is the shackle not sitting at a 45 and is vertical? Nothing is wrong right? Im all paranoid now that i didnt do something right.

Sorry. In the middle of stuff and posting before i read. So can i run 56”s if i switch sides for the shackles mounts to angle them backwards?
