1976 Chevy K5 resurrection

Holy crap! You blew all of the paint off the truck with just a pressure washer? That must be the primer coat that he put over the original paint when he was in school. My truck was the first vehicle he ever did. Ha, obviously he never went into that field. That was over 35 years ago that he painted that Blazer. You'll see that the passenger quarter panel is from another Blazer. The previous owner slid into a pole right above the rear wheel and back then, Blazer parts were all over the place. You'd easily see 3 or 4 '70s Blazers at the local pick-a-part. So he just replaced it.

More progress tonight, prepping to pull the drivetrain. Hood, radiator, grill, and front bumper are off. Tomorrow I will pull the front clip to get the motor, transmission, and tcase out.
Front clip is off, rust is not bad but the front of the frame is slightly bent on the driver's side. The rust can be fixed fairly quickly as it is primarily in the rockers and one rear wheel well.
Drivetrain is out.

Wow, the only thing that I can think this could be is either an accident in 1983 when I was on the way to school one day and someone pulled out in front of me and I kind of side swiped them or, in 1987, someone came off a side street on my left and drove right in front of me. I hit them on the left front bumper (one of the reasons it was so wavy). Either way, I had no idea that the front of the frame was bent.
Seeing that engine and drivetrain there on the ground, that I drove for around 300,000 miles is kind of surreal. I look forward to seeing what you do with this old K5.

Looks like the accident that bent the driver's side bumper was when the frame bent, the corner brace punched the frame in.
Another picture dump. Pulling the rest of the carpet others the rust. A few spots but nothing that can't be fixed.
I also pulled the rear tire carrier. I don't plan to use it and sold it to another guy wanting one for his Suburban.

Sold the tire carrier Saturday and he had it sand blasted, painted, and installed Sunday.
I'm really enjoying these pictures. Once you cleaned up that roof, it looks great. Yeah I was wondering how much rust was going to be under that carpet after all of these years. Hopefully, you got some decent money for that tire carrier. I know that those are hard to find and some people are willing to pay a lot for them. It looks great on that Suburban. In fact, that Suburban looks great.
Unfortunately, we had to pull the plug on this project. Between the frame damage and extent of the rust, it was more than we felt would be worth fixing. It went to a guy needing parts to keep his 77 K5 on the road who then gave away what he didn't need to save a few more.
That's too bad but yeah, that truck gave a good life. I bet I put close to 200K miles on it (and it had 94K on it when I bought it in 1981). Glad to hear it's being used to keep other K5s on the road. Hope you got your money out of all of the parts.

No trouble there. I used many of them parts or still have parts from your stash that are going to my other 3 projects.
I do, but I'm saving it for now unless I come across a good green one.
