1977 lq9 k10 stepside

That's a beautiful shot right there! Very nice build and very nice truck.

Thanks, guys. I definitely put more money in it then I thought. I did leave it in primer though.

It did pretty good ripping it up in the snow. I am still a little scared of braking things though. I am a little worried about the trans. I need to get 4:10's under it and it professionally tuned. It sometimes slips pretty bad when shifting into 3rd.

I think I found a 6 lug 14 bsf for a decent price and I am going to try to pick it up this weekend. We will see how that goes.

cracked flat top knuckle

I finally found and picked up a 6 lug 4:10 14bsf the other weekend. This was the longest road trip for the truck and it did good. I was hoping to swap axles next weekend.

I was also going to pull the trigger on crossover steering tomorrow but this what I found when taking the knuckle off of the dana44 I bout a month or two ago.

I know I can get a reid knuckle with crossover but this is a big bummer. I'm debating using my 10b knuckle and not doing crossover. Im not going to be taking this truck offroad much. I feel like steering is the weakest part of the truck right now though.

It has been a while since I posted a updated. I swapped to the 4:10 14b sf in March and upgraded to bistein 5100 shocks shortly after and it has been driving great.

I finally purchased a drop pitman arm from ord and swapped in the 4:10 dana 44 I got. I installed new moog ball joints and used my corp 10b knuckles and backing plates. As the dana44 didn't have the steering stabilizer mount, I got a new Rancho stabilizer.

Also, while I was at it, I drilled new holes and shortened my front shackles to 3.75" and removed the small bottom leaf. This helped level out the truck some.

I have been driving it the past few days and something is wrong with the alignment. The truck feels like it is all over the road and doesnt feel like it is pulling back to center. As caster and camber are not adjustable, I am not sure what is wrong. I didn't change the two in and it looks to be 2mm narrower at the front of the tire.

What do you guys think the issue is?

You shortened your front shackles. That can throw off your camber and cause odd handling.

They are ord's HD 4.5" shackles so I pretty much shortened them back the stock 4" length. I might try switching back to 4.5 to see if it helps though.

If the axles are out of a 1978 K20, it will be a 14bff rear. They didn't start using the semi floater for a few more years. The gears will be either 3.73, 4.10, or 4.56.

We have a 78 K20 at the shop with 3.42's, apparently that was an option too.

Yeah, I was doing some looking through the GM Heritage Center page, and apparently you could get K20's with 3.21 and 3.42 gears. I've never seen one, but it was available.

I slightly increased the toe in today. It helped some but not much. The truck is still wondering. The Dana 44 must be different or the new ball joints changed the geometry.

The only things that should have changed was the steering with the drop pitman arm and a new steering stabilizer.

I finally got the truck on level ground today and measured my caster and camber with an magnetic angle finder on the bottom of the knuckle. Is this the best way?

Caster looks to be between 2-3*
Camber is around 7*
I changed the toe from 1/8 to 1/4 this weekend but this helped very littl

These numbers looks okay to me. I really don't know what is causing the truck to wander more than it did before.

What kind of condition are the tires? What PSI are you running in them? Are they all the same?

I think that's the next step. I'm going to try to take it to an alignment shop this week.

I just know that when i had my burb lifted it drove like crap but drove fantastic before i lifted it. I took it in to get aligned and they said both my camber and caster was off a few this or that. I never fixed it and just lived with it.
