1977 Silverado Crew Cab.

We'll see. It is super cool. My main priority is paint and making it 4x4. I'm not really in a hurry to swap the motor out. And who knows, maybe I'll just fuel inject the big block and leave it. Time will tell.

I'd keep the aluminum valve covers, just for the fact that they'll hold a gasket better than the tinfoil thin stock ones.

Ah yes I did! Thank you! Not quite what I'm after tho. I think want a complete dropout motor. Not 100% sure I want to do an 8.1 although it does seem like the obvious choice. The main thing is that if I was going to drop $600 for something this moment, it would be on a Dana 60!

I need some guidance on getting the choke hooked up. Currently it's just wired open. It's the type that takes the manifold mounted choke stove deal. It doesn't have one on it. Will one off a 350 work? Or does it need to be for a big block?

Nothing too big to report but I did order new calipers for it. The right front sticks pretty fierce. So I figured I might as well replace both. Also ordered new front wheel seals since I figured I might as well re pack the front bearings since it had been sitting so long and I like to know the condition of my wheel bearings. Plus a new diff cover gasket cause I would like to change gear oil and take a peak inside to see how things are going in there. So that's all for now. Little maintainance stuff to get me by while I work on my house projects and stuff.

Also I sold the canopy to a friend of mine but I have yet to go drop it off. And I'm on the hunt for a bother set of 16x7 ferd steel wheels. I want to find a set and actually get them powder coated white before I get new tires.

Lastly, If anyone can tell me anything about how to get the choke hooked up would be super cool! :waytogo:

I think a SBC coil setup will work with the BBC manifold if its set up for it....having the depression in the manifold and a screw mount for the tin cover...after that its getting the linkage working right to close the choke plate when cold (<50*) and opening fully as the engine warms up past 100*. have any pics of what you have now?

here are a couple types of coils, depending on what your manifold is setup for:

I'll take a pic tomorrow. It looks like it has the normal pad on the intake, I just don't know if they are the same for sbc and bbc.

In the mean time here is a pic of the spid.

I wouldn't paint it. I think the truck looks perfect. Shiny things are never as much fun.

What year is the engine? It's a 396 correct? Didn't some of the 60s stuff have the choke operate differently than the stove they used later?

I think the style that uses the coil spring deal had a square flat spot with a peg to locate it, and bolt hole in it. IIRC. It's been ten years almost since I've messed with a Qjet like that.

Rich, it's a little too rough for my liking. And I won't be doing an over the top paint job. Basically going for a an at home maaco paint job but using higher quality materials and better prep.

Rusty, I'm not totally sure the year of the engine. Just based on it being a 396 and having a 67-69? Q jet on it I would guess it's in those years.

I guess it don't matter what it is as long as it works to your liking...
I can snap a pic of my 76 454 and show you what it should be like, just not sure if your intake and carb are compatible though. Can you get a better pic of the intake choke coil platform?

Yea I'll get a good shot today after work. I'll also try and get the numbers off the carb and motor so we can figure out exactly what I have going on.

Me too! Lol

So I farted around with it a little tonight. It runs pretty good, but certainly not perfect. Mostly at idle. It smells plenty rich. Here is a few details that might help steer me in a direction. First, with the vac advance unhooked it's at around 10*advanced and it does not want to run there. With the vac advance hooked up its probably in the neighborhood of 25*? And it runs fine there. Second, the idle mix screws are backed nearly all the way out. It starts running worse with them screwed in much. Last, I don't know if this means anything but with it running and my thumb on or off the pcv valve, it doesn't seem to effect how it runs. It's pulling good vacuum through it, but plugged or unplugged doesn't seem to change things. Thoughts?
