*off topic* dude is that your house in the background? It looks pretty cool w/ that wrap around porch on the entire second story...
no its not my house. its a apartment. yep my parents house used to have a porch all the way around the house. i think ill do that when i buy a house in abt 2 yrs.. today was car shopping.. so will be in debt a bit lol. will build my own garage someday.. but as of the *apartment* i got the whole selection downstairs. and the rest have small rooms upstairs. so i like it.. and rent is cheap! 590 a month with free water, electric, heat, garbage.. the only problem is i live on top of mountain, that the steep driveway is .7 mile long.. and theres some darn steep hills.. need 4 wd to get up here.. but i sure hate seeing my finacee going out with her car and ended up walking on top to get me to walk down and get her 2WD FRONTwheel drive car up here:doah: at least it only happens on bad snow storms. we made a deal next winter i drive the 80 gmc to work, and she use the 03 z71 to go to work or pick up her daughter.... only on snow storm days...

Those tires need the groover. you buy the beer and I'll bring the hotknife.:wink1:
sounds like a deal.. hmmm! we'll talk abt that! what beer u drink? hey if i do a shackle flip with heavy duty springs and 2 inch block in the rear. will i still be able to do some work with the truck? like truck load of scrap stuff like that. no more 2-3 tons:o if ya know what i mean. like 1 ton max.. 2 k lbs.. etc..

a shackle flip doesn't render your truck useless. it simply allow the shackle to work like it should. the geometry of a stock setup is screwy. as you load the rear the shackle needs to go back and down. weight on a flipped shackle will make it go back and up. if you think about it you will see why GM did it the way they did, it's cheating.

yeah i see what u mean.. another member pm me and told me it'll be good he pulls a lot of weight with a shackle flip and has no problem.. so i might do that! save money on rear springs.. and i got a brand new rear leaf spring on back of truck. i might use that. or go up to leafs. i got 5 right now. and a 2 1/2 inch blocks in rear.. will that work good?

yep my 80 is gonna be a play truck with work at some times. just not as much as before.. and my 03 is too pretty to dent it.. so i want to use the 03 for a few work and the 80 cause i love to drive the 80. and the 80 is alot more stronger than the 03 from what i have hauled.

actually your 03 is rated to haul twice what the 80 was. the term 1/2 ton came from the fact that thats what the truck could haul. your 03 can haul almost 1 ton. over 1 ton if you had a regular cab like me.

and my 80 gmc has more horse power in the engine and alot more beefy tranny. so it hauls up the hills with very little gas pedal. and the 03 i haul up the hill almost flooring it and trying to go. somethings up with my 03 i guess.

unless you have a 400 hp engine in the 80 you are incorrect. your 03 with the 4.8 makes 285 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. the 4l60E in your 03 is by far a better trans then any older auto. the reason you need to floor it is because the engines are designed to rev really high to mak ethe power. get a reprogrammer for the 03 and you will pick power and fuel economy as well as firm up your shifts.

your gear ratios may have a lot to do with the seat of the pants difference. what ratio is in each truck? if you do not know the 03 post the vin and I can tell you everything GM knows about it. when you bought it, where you bought it, every component and where they were built.

not much done. did something tho!

i didnt do much to the truck today.. wasnt home most of the time til abt 5 pm. at 5 30 i started wire grinder the outside part of the frame. to take off all the loose paint, some rust. after its all done, i grinded off the factory bracket that hold the exhaust up. and then primed the frame. tomorrow after work or tuesday im gonna clean inside the frame and prime it. take brake line off since im gonna replace the ones in the frame, and probably sleep n deam of my 80 gmc.. heres the pix.

not much.

not much.. today i left work early and went to the junk yard for like 10 mins. to chat and make plan for me to use the loader this thursday to pick up the engine, axles and put em in back of my truck so i can haul em home. then i stopped by at a company abt 2 miles from my house and met the owner of the company.. nice guy! i chatted w him abt me looking for work closer to home.. and the guy(george) told me when i see alot of trucks at his place that means hes open and he told me to come and find him:laugh: and he even asked me if i want to work for him and how much i want an hour. i told him yeah i wanna work for him, and how much an hour is a secret haha. so ill have to find him next week then im quitting my allentown job! no more 196 miles a day on my truck, and it will be what? 4 miles a day. im soo happy.. but got to keep my hope down til im offically hired.. but i already am. so im happy. just got to fill out the paper works. now back to the subject!

i got back home tired but this thread is keeping me motative to work on my truck. so i took the hitch off, and did a lil more wire grinder work. took the brake line thats in the frame out. primed the frame a lil more in back, ran out. so tomorrow will get more primer and finish it up.. pics tomorrow. im gonna start taking the rear end out, not everything but start getting stuff off til im ready to put 3/4 axle in..

Congrats on the new job. :waytogo: And think of it this way more time to work on the truck.:D

if you make the same as at your last job and do not need to drive as far thats like getting a raise. hurry up and get hired so you can go wheeling. save the long trips for towing the 80 to the trails.
