Just a heads up.

If you have one, which I believe includes the majority of the CUCV axles, it's the one with the smaller pinion support bearing.

Timken has cancelled the production of the pinion support bearing. Talked to a few different places today and unless you can find some old stock on the shelves somewhere, they are gone and will not be produced again.

There is not enough material to bore the housing out to fit the larger bearings. Unless there happens to be something closer that was originally designed for something else...

WTF? 8 bajillion 14 bolts out there and there's not enough demand to keep in production?! Crazy... :screwy:

Do you have a part # handy? I'll order myself a spare right now, if I can find one.

That is just one manufacturer though. One of the best bearing manufacturers, but there should be other sources.

Agreed--there is SKF,Bower-BCA and a dozen other brands that will likely still make them--if not,I bet there are enough sitting in warehouses to cover the needs, how many of those axles are still around that need a pinion bearing anyway?..

I just got a set of axles form a CUCV. What's the easiest way to determine the year of it?

GM stamps axle codes on the axle tubes, they aren't always easy to read or find however...you may find a production date stamped on the ring gear if its the original..

I haven't been able to find one through any of my sources. West coast gear supply has informed me that they can't get them. Don't have the part number in front of me. If somebody finds them please post up. I have two of these axles

GM refers to them as a "pinion straddle bearing" if that might help in searching...

Jesse at HAD might have them?

I have no idea if this is a "real" part number but there a lot of google hits for part number "YB PB-004". That number is listed for '88 and older with 2.050" O.D. bearing. **Note: It does say it excludes '84-'85 but I can't see how they'd be different.
