1986 M1008 Cummins swap

Well I bought a m1008 back in january and now im finally starting to get to work on it

bought 4 h1 16.5 wheels and tires and 1 tire with run the runflat for 300

Congrats on your purchase and good luck. I just got a k5 in January as well and I absolutely love it...
 
well ive been awhile now for awhile and its time to finish what I started.

So heres the plans so far

Suspension
-52" rear springs up front with DIY4X B52s custom spring From ORD to support the massive cummins so about a total of 6" of lift
-64" rears with DIY4X shackle flip w/ 6" shackle

Engine
-97 P-pump 12 valve cummins, mild build up 80-100hp injectors w/ the pump turned up

Tranny/Transfer Case
-93 Dodge A518 , reverse manual valvebody w/ red alto clutches and suncoast converter
-203/205 doubler from ord unless somebody finds a better kit

Axles/Steering
- D60 front 4:56 ,35 Spline Detroit locker w/ yukon 35 spline Chromoly shafts
- 14 Bolt rear 4:56 w/ factory Detroit, DIY4X disc brake conversion
- ORD crossover w/ psc ram assist

so far ive got alot gathered up so ill post pics as i go on

Sweet build plan, good luck! I have an 1987 M1028 with ORD shackle flip, TC 4" up front and ORD crossover steering, in the Dallas area. Id like to see how that disc brake swap turns out, been planning that for mine.
What do you plan to use it for? Wheeling i assume?

I paid a little too much for the engine 1800.00 don't knowing if it ran or no turbo, vacuum pump, or power steering pump. Luckily enough my buddy rolled is 02 dodge and told me help me pull the injection pump off and you can have the turbo..

Yea man I'll let you know , the truck will be mostly trail riding and hitting some mud, hopefully when I get it done we can do some wheeling

here's the story on the engine. Bought the engine from a guy who said the engine wasn't holding oil pressure , so I've started to tear the engine apart and everything looks good so far. But since everything is torn down so why not rebuild the whole thing ....


And on a side note working at a part store helps out a bunch.... Back to the engine here's the P7100 175hp if I recall correctly

Also got 2 packages in , the ORD crossover steering and my engine mounts with cradle

Man ,thats gonna be a sweet truck when its all done!....Wish my 6.2 looked like the one you evicted..it looks brand new compared to both of mine,that look like they spent some time at the bottom of the atlantic,everything crusty and rotted on them...maybe I should move to Texas..:rolleyes:...you never see a frame in that condition up here either...

Hahaha man the truck came from Pennsylvania that's after doing some cleaning , heres the old stuff I pulled off

And the motor only had 38000 miles but was trashed , 2 of the cylinders were washed and the camshaft was broken

In the 2nd gens with the new interior they changed the oil pressure guage. It just kinda read somewhere letting you know you had oil pressure. Also, I believe the sending units are a common failure.

Who's injectors are you planning on using ? Anything else planned performance wise ?

The injectors has been a very large debate on between some of me and my friends. All my buddies what me to throw the biggest injectors I can and smoke every body out on the trails. But with a slightly upgraded factory turbo, big hp injectors are out of the question . I don't want to run high egts on the trails. What's probably going to happen is I'll end up on some 80-100hp injectors. Luckily enough I have a good friend that owns an injection shop that's going to give me the hook up with some injectors,turning the pump up and custom grind fuel plate..
