It gets really hot in Texas! The aftermarket in dash A/C just wasn't cooling enough for the hot Texas summers (probably worked just fine for the original owner in Montana).

After considering several options, I took the plunge and replaced the center console with a second evaporator/blower unit for the rear. Upgraded to a larger condenser behind the grill and updated to the new style refrigerant.
The rear blower fan control fit nicely in the 4wd shifter box.

I could not be happier. Works great and the kids are way more comfortable in the back seat. Next project is to build a replacement console.

I got it done with a LOT of help from a local A/C guy. The system still runs off of one compressor, but with a larger condenser and now two separate evaporator/blower units. The rear unit has simple power wired to it for a four speed fan blower, along with a high pressure and return refrigerant hose. Two floor drains through the floor pan drain condensate water (and it makes lots of water with out high humidity along the Texas coast).

Making progress on the replacement console/cover.

Local outdoor sign shop has a huge sheet metal shear and brake. The guy there did a great job forming and TIG welding the cover.

Now that I can see if from the top, it looks very close to the same setup as to what is in the rear of my Burb. That one uses an expansion valve though. Both run off of one compressor, but has a split line system.

mounted mine to the rear of the blazer in the suburban position. 4 bolts and a couple of screws and you can remove the top. a world of difference and also have the rear Suburban heater.

You saying you mounted yours to the roof in the rear? and have it removable? how do you work that with high pressure freon lines?

The lines are from a Suburban and are flexible from the factory. just unbolt and it set on the floor.
