1BEATK5's "does it all" crew cab build

are you going to do any more trimming to the front fenders, or leave em like that?

Why aren't you keeping the doors?

i have a new front clip, so those fenders are coming off when it gets painted. im going to lift it so i dont have to cut so much. i havent decided on a lift yet. mainly because i cant decide on an engine. im not going to lift it, then decide on a diesel, then needing different front springs. there might be a 6bt in the future.

so yes im leaving them like that

i have a full set of power silverado doors for it too

i think its pretty cool with no lift. just trim a little higher on the back part of the fender...:dunno:

yeah. start trimming right where the wheel well starts to turn down. Just my opinion, of course. kinda cool to have the big tires stuffed. Sense its not a mudder or crawler, it could stay low with big tires...

i dont want to go too big. i like the 6"lift/38s look. but it would just be too tall for dd (kids and wife) use.

4" and lowered bumpstops would be good

2.5" and lowered stops, almost the same trimming......:doah::thinking::dunno::ears:

idk yet. im not doing much else to this until the k5 is back on the road/trail

with 6" and 35s and no steps on my work rig, its a pain getting in and out at times. my son is 10 and the mrs is 5-3 so niether get in it well and i'm wearing out the tilt column.

maybe i need to reverse my setups and put the 6 on the blazer and stock on the work rig:thinking:

anyways, back to your rig- my vote = big tires, no lift = more money for the motor :thumb:

can you put a sm465 behind a cummins?

you technically could. but it would suck ballz with no overdrive. i would go nv4500.
there is a 93 dodge 4x4 w175k on the engine for $3000 in the parts section of cl right now. i could make atleast half that back by parting it out. its an auto. thats the only crappy part. thats prob what im going to do. just start parting out dodges instead of chevys:D.

if i found a donor, that wouldnt be a bad idea. but i would want a manual trans.
davew said he can make me a harness adapter to run a 96'-up vortec 454. but its still a 454.

its either a vortec 383 or a cummins. those are my current prospects

well, the 383 would be a way cheaper, simpler, faster swap.

comin along nice :thumb: and my vote is go the easy route for now (383) so you can drive it

its not like its not driveable right now. the 350 does ok for dd use. just no towing. or i could put the 35s on for towing. idk yet. there are still some stuff to consider before an engine swap.

What you need is a nice big 40 gal gas tank in the back - say from a suburban  to do away from those pesky dual tanks...

truck looks bad ass.

I agree about putting a suburban tank in it. those dual tanks seem to never work for me.

whats wrong with dual tanks? they work fine. the fuel pump went out and all i had to do was switch over to the other tank to go to work.

i do need a 40 gal burb tank, but for the k5.

i find it a pain to fill the rig up-both sides- for a road trip. even worse when i'm draggin my trailer. a lot of these city gas stations aren't friendly to turning all that crap around.

32 gallons is already plenty of fuel:doah: i dont need to add more to the bill.

hmmmm. lets see...... 32 gallons at $3.50 is $112. plus the 40 gallon in the k5 on the trailer. thats $140. so now im at $250 to fill both trucks.

6mpg dragging 7500lbs... carry the 1, x5, plus 7= i need a second job just to go wheelin. :doah:

if i drive the k5, thats probably the same mileage as towing it with the crew cab.
454 spinning 2800 @ 60 for an hour each way. mehh.. i dont like that too much
350 spinning 2800 @ 60 dragging 7500lbs for an hour each way. i would feel better

6bt spinning 2200 at 60 dragging 7500lbs getting 10mpg at .50cents more per gallon. it starting to sound better every time i think about it. 32 gallons should be plenty.

2200 at 60 is too many rpms for a cummins, you should be shooting for more like 1800-1900, I spin around 1950 or so at 70mph in my 00 and average 20mpgs unloaded and still pull 16 or so towing 8k. My truck is lifted 2" with metric 33's and weighs in at 7280 last time it was on the scales. With a mild build and the proper gear ratio you should be able to get an easy 14 mpgs towing MINUMUM, 12valves when set up properly should get better mileage then my 24 valve, and if running a manual trans you should do better then my auto as well. :D

I am planning on putting a burb tank in my crew as well as both side tanks going to use it as a transfer tank. Figure it could get me to NJ with out filling up
