Hey guys first if this in the wrong area feel free to move it. I am new to this site but sometime in the next month taking my truck to the shop to get a 6 point cage put in and was looking for some ideas. So please post your pics or your friends pics to give me some ideas and be able to show the welder what I am looking for. Thanks in advance

Definitely check out the first gen section. If you haven't paid for the membership, do it! It'll be the best $25 you've ever spent. Welcome to the board BTW!

Once in the first gen section be sure to check out Mike's (NorCal69) build. His cage/sliders are sick!

Rob's is still my fave all time cage... I have all those pics in a folder...

yeah, I like your door bar stuff... I know the work involved... ;)

I was just down in the dungeon with a fresh Molson Ice and the tape measure figuring out a tube order for the upcoming CC flatbed.. 6 sticks of 2", 2 sticks of 1.5 :weld::grind::saweet:

nothing gets ya quite pumped like getting an order of DOM! :haha:

I LOVE steel tubing myself as well. I wish I could ask for it for Christmas. I could of course but you know you would never actually get it under the tree. Damnit.

my sis bitched when I asked for an MSD hat for x-mas.. :haha:

When I was 18 and building my first motor my girlfriend who I married a few years later bought me a 12qt Miladon oil pan for Christmas for my 396 I was building for my 68' factory ss396 Chevelle I had

Doesnt somebody make a full first gen cage for like $600 all ready to go? I think Colby posted it up before.... :dunno:

It has been said that those pre fab kits or just an expensive way to buy tube you're going to need to bend anyway.

No personal experience with them. I plan on just dropping the coin to let one of the local shops build one whenever I get my 72 back on the road.

Yep, the S&W prebent cages suck as has been proven. NOT FOR tall dudes. Chicks sure ok or short guys, not big guys. Build your own. It IS much more satisfying indeed. I was going to buy a DOM tube bumper at one point and decided the cost was not wort it, I could buy my own bender and build as many bumpers and cages as I wanted to. So Thats what I did, bought the bender and got tube and went to work.

I think the results of my cage are proof it's the better way to go I feel. Now I will say I got lucky several times with the process of bending as I did not mis bend one single tube, but still glad I did what I did and bought a bender. Can not wait to bend more to be honest. Wish I could have done cages for all the people who has asked me to do cages for them. No time working a full time job and LOTS of ot ot top of my reg 40 hrs a week.

Goto the 1st gen section of the dusty ol CK5 photo gallery. There is some good ideas in there. I like this one, just needs a little more triangulation.
