OK, so the stock muffler on my wife's '03 Z71 Tahoe is rattling, the heat shield is cracked along one edge. While checking for fixes/replacments she tells me that she would like better if it sounded "mean and nasty". She makes me so happy sometimes:D:D:D:D:D. I do some you tube research and forward her this:

"Hell YES!" was the reply I get. :woot::woot:

Now my questions:
-I've read that the stock exhaust size is 2.75" and these mufflers come in either 2.5" or 3". I would also like to retain the flange that is located north of the stock muffler so that if the time came I could buy any other exhaust system and bolt it up. Is it simple enough to ask the shop to keep that section of the stock exhaust and mate it (2.75") to the 3" muffler?

-I am unsure if I want single or dual exits but if I go dual, should I go 3" all the way or use a smaller diameter like 2.5"

-Anything I am missing?

If you go with the flowmaster 10 you wil get real tired of the drone really fast. In fact all chambered mufflers (10 series and the like) on a tahoe like that resonate inside the cabin really bad. My 99 and my 02 did. I got tired of them and went with something with straight through design. Sounds good but no drone and you can actually enjoy your drive.

I put a flowmaster 70 series on our 03 Tahoe and I thought it sounded just right. Don't remember the specifics but I know we just added the muffler, no duals.

That's what I've heard about most aftermarket exhaust systems "the drone".
But that is the reason I want to keep that bolt up flange that's under there, so that of the wife gets tiers of sounding like a race truck we can go to a better designed system. We're also trying to not sound like every other Chevy in town.

I like the lift, tire and wheel package on that black Tahoe! Any thoughts on the size, offset etc? My 03 needs a boost...

I hated the drone of the flowmasters I had on my 00 GMC 1500 5.3 truck, I put a single 3" Hooker aero Chamber and the drone was gone.

Here is what mine sounded like with the converters removed.

Here it is with converters and true duals with Hooker Aero Chamber mufflers.

We've got what looks to be a 40 series something under the Avalanche, sounds decent idling and putting around town, but get on the highway and it gets annoying pretty quickly. Yeah, the drone at certain speeds. We're going to be putting on something different soon.
