I think 2nd gear is starting to slip on my wife's Tahoe. Before I take it to a shop do you have any suggestions?

Also, I can never remember the correct sequence for checking tranny fluid.

Thanks

Check the fluid in park with the engine running, vehicle on level ground. Cold level should be about halfway between add and full, hot level should be just at or slightly below full. If you are slipping in second gear you will probably be slipping in overdrive as well since the same band is applied in either gear, but there is also a clutch applied in fourth. What are the symptoms? Any check engine lights?

Mileage is around 180k+

Alright, I checked the fluid after driving with the nose slightly up in park, fluid was full. Going to check again tonight. The wife took it to it to Fresno today so I'll also see if she experienced any issues.

No idiot lights that I saw. When I felt something I was in the throttle pushing up a steep grade. Engine revved up instead of grabbing and pulling.

Does this have a 4L60e?? its an '03 Z71

OK, so I had a shop do a basic service on it. They added some conditioner that might help. Drove it for a few weeks but nothing really changed. Brought it back into them today, the owner drove it around and took a look at it.

It has been determined that I need a new transmission. They work with Jasper so they can get a new one with 3 year/100k mile warranty. Looks like I'm going to be broke for quite a bit longer.:doah:

All of this right after I rip out half my house to remodel. FML!

Yeah, but I think its worth it in the long run. Ive said since we bought the Tahoe that its worth both a new engine and tranny. Just wish I didn't have to.

Got the appointment for Friday the 4th. Should have back that afternoon.
