2009 Silverado 1500 Rear Disc Conversion

So I just bought a 2009 Silverado Z71 Extended Cab. I love the truck but hate the look of the rear drum brakes that they decided to go back to. I know with the MAX Package you can still get rear disc brakes. My question is can you buy those OEM disc brakes and fit them to my set up???

They ditched the drum parking brake over the disc's out back? Bummer.

yeah, its pretty weak... but I think they brought it back for 2010...?!? Either way I just wanna know if I can use the MAX package rear discs on my z71? Or does the axle housing have different mounting?

I know on my 09 which isn't really a "max" but has the same stuff as the vortec max has the disks. I also have the bigger rear end and not the standard 10 bolt. I also think if you got the trailer equipment you got rear disks?

Did you get the 6.2 engine? Is it a 12 bolt rear end with six lug wheels? I guess if the rear end is bigger those discs probably wont be a direct fit. There are a few companies out there that make rear disc kits but they are expensive! Like over $1000

I have a 6.0 I think I might have a picture of the rear end I'm not sure what it is.

This is what i have a 9.5 light duty axle with the g80, I guess it's pretty much a 14bolt semi float.

I was bummed when I saw the drums on my 07 Sierra. It has the trailer package from the factory with 3.73s and a 5.3 liter but I havent checked which rear end it has. It does have the gov bomb.

Yeah mine has the locker in it, which works excellent! I aldo have to say that the brakes work extremely well also, and the way they have fine tuned ABS is amazing in the snow! I just don't like the look of drum brakes, and I don't like the idea of mud packing in the drums if i do a little mudding.

my 06 silverado also has rear drums, but somebody local to me has a disc rearend from an 04 I am thinking about getting...if I had a money tree that is..
